Why do I care? Why do I do I
Tryna be perfect, yeah
Perfect in your eyes
I know it ain't worth it, no
But, goddamn, I try
Is it for love, or just eyes on me?
Perfect, yeah
That's not real life
Whatever I say, whatever I do
People gon' talk, ain't nothing new
Whatever they say, whatever they do
Whatever, it don't mean it's true
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why am I checkin' if you're checkin' on me?
All of this stressin' be messin' with me
Why do I care? Why do I do I
Tryna be okay, yeah
With what I got
I ain't tryna showcase, no
Something I'm not, yeah
All of these eyes on me, eyes on me
They never see what's inside
But that's okay, uh
Taught me so much
Whatever I say, whatever I do
People gon' talk, ain't nothing new
Whatever they say, whatever they do
Whatever, it don't mean it's true
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why am I checkin' if you're checkin' on me?
All of this stressin' be messin' with me
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
I should care less, what you think about me
Careless, you ain't losin' no sleep
I should care less, what you think about me
Why do I do I
Whatever I say, whatever I do
People gon' talk, ain't nothing new
Whatever they say, whatever they do
Whatever, it don't mean it's true
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
Why am I checkin' if you're checkin' on me?
All of this stressin' be messin' with me
Why do I care? Why do I do I care?
I should care less, what you think about me
Careless, you ain't losin' no sleep
I should care less, what you think about me
Why do I do I
I should care less, what you think about me
Careless, you ain't losin' no sleep
I should care less, what you think about me
Why do I do I care?
(Why do I do I care?)
In Ella Eyre's song "Careless," she questions why she cares so much about what others think of her. She admits to trying to be perfect in the eyes of others, even though she knows it's not worth it. The lyrics highlight the pressure that social norms and societal expectations can put on an individual, causing them to constantly question themselves and seek validation from others. Despite recognizing that people will always talk and judge, she still worries about what others think.
The repetition of "why do I care?" emphasizes the frustration and confusion that comes with this constant battle between staying true to oneself and conforming to society's expectations. The lyrics also suggest that it's important to focus on what truly matters and not on superficialities. Ella Eyre sings about not wanting to showcase something she's not, implying that she values authenticity over being someone she's not just to please others.
Overall, "Careless" is a powerful reminder to be confident in oneself and not to worry about what others think.
