The band eventually broke up in 1996 and Bunbury started his solo career in 1997 with a techno album, Radical Sonora with his new band: Copi (piano), del Moran (bass), Ramón Gacias (drums) and former Héroes del Silencio guitarrist Alan Boguslavsky.
Recognized by his wish to always reinvent himself, Bunbury released in 1999 the album Pequeño, which sounded much different than anything he did before. His band also suffered changes, Boguslavsky was replaced by Rafa Domínguez, and the new faces, Ana Belén Estaje (violin), Luis Miguel Romero (percussion), Javier Iñigo, Javier García Vega & Antonio Ríos in the metal instruments.
This band was known as the "Huracán Ambulante" ("Rambling Hurricane") and recorded with Bunbury the rest of his solo discography, (except Antonio Ríos).
In 2005, after 8 years together, Bunbury dissolved the band and declared that will record a new album in 2006 only with his voice and a piano. Nevertheless, in early 2006 he recorded an album with spanish artist Nacho Vegas by the name of El tiempo de las cerezas.
His old band, Héroes del Silencio, reunited in 2007 for a short tour which visited Latin America, United States and Spain.
Ciudad de bajas pasiones

Aún nos duraba la noche más larga
Quizás no fueran bastantes
Canciones de madrugada
Todos los narcocorridos
De tigres trucanes
Y el grupo exterminador
Ante las amenazas de Fox
Y todavía cantando
La de ? ya palmó
Llegamos al aeropuerto
Tarareando
No señor!
The lyrics of Enrique Bunbury's "Ciudad de bajas pasiones" describe the singer's experience leaving Ciudad Juárez, a city known for its violence and drug trafficking. As they leave, they are still caught up in the night, and singing songs of the early morning. The singer references popular songs in the narcocorrido genre, which glorifies drug traffickers and often describes their violent activities. They mention bands like Tigres Trucanes and Grupo Exterminador, who refuse to back down in the face of threats from the Mexican government represented by President Vicente Fox.
As they arrive at the airport, the singer continues singing and humming along to the tunes they just heard. The chorus of the song is a call to let their hearts guide them, rather than logic or fear. They ask for tequila, lemons, and salt to be served as they leave the city of "bajas pasiones." The name of the city alludes to the idea that it is a place where people give in to their baser instincts and passions, leading them down a path of danger and destruction.
The final verse describes the arrival at the airport and the attempt to smuggle marijuana onto the plane. Even as they face threats from customs officials, they continue singing and continue on their journey. The song is a reflection on the culture of violence and drug trafficking that exists in certain parts of Mexico and the glorification of it through music. It also speaks to the resilience and determination of those who are caught up in that culture, continuing to live and even thrive in the face of danger.
