Song To the Siren
Eurielle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle

And you sang
"Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you"
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me
Were you hare when I was fox
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks

For you sing
"Touch me not
Touch me not
Come back tomorrow
O my heart
O my heart
Shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the oyster
I am troubled as the tide
Should I stand amid your breakers
Or should I lie with death my bride

Hear me sing
"Swim to me
Swim to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am

Here I am
Waiting to hold you"

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of “Song to the Siren” are about a person who seems to be lost at sea, searching for someone or something that will guide them to safety. The first verse paints a picture of loneliness and anxiety, as the person is “long afloat on shipless oceans”. Despite this, they try to maintain a positive outlook, but it is only when they encounter the person with “singing eyes and fingers” that they feel a sense of comfort and safety. The chorus echoes the request of the mysterious figure to “sail to me” and to be enfolded in their embrace. There is a sense of longing and neediness in the verses, as the singer wonders whether the person they have encountered was dreaming of them as they were of the other. They begin to question their own direction, feeling as though they are adrift and broken, as the person tells them to “come back tomorrow” and their heart shies away from the sorrow.

The final verse captures the feeling of being torn between two options, as the singer wonders whether they should “stand amid your breakers or should I lie with death my bride”. They are troubled and puzzled, feeling as though they must choose between safety and comfort, or danger and mystery. The chorus returns, this time with a new request to “swim to me”, and echoes the earlier plea to be held and embraced. The lyrics are evocative and poetic, capturing the sense of longing, confusion, and desire that comes with the search for connection and meaning.
