A Thousand Years
Ezio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Christ, you look even better than before
It's not fair to ask if I still want you
When you know I need you even more
I'm glad we're both alright now
We've got ourselves back under control
We're just living day to day
And we're sticking, we're sticking to our role
But if I lived a thousand years
Everyday I'd think of you
A thousand years
Do you think I'll see them through?
Sometimes it feels just like a slow spiral
Spinning round, sinking down, down, down below
Out of control I'm in a slow spiral
And I'm free falling into the dark and cold
But if I lived a thousand years
Everyday I'd think of you
A thousand years
Do you think I'll see them through?
No it's nobody's fault what happened
There is nothing anybody can do
It's not that long
No, I said a thousand years is not that long
No, a thousand years is not that long
I think I'll see them through
The lyrics of Ezio's song "A Thousand Years" explore the theme of longing and reminiscence. The singer encounters someone who they have seen after a long time, and despite the attempts to control their emotions, they reveal their feelings of wanting and needing that person even more. The singer expresses their gratitude in finding themselves back in control and living day-to-day, yet they confess the difficulty in staying afloat, as it sometimes feels like a slow spiral that they are doomed to fall through. The song's title refers to the metaphorical time the singer would think of the person they're addressing, emphasizing the significance of their connection.
The song's theme of longing is supported by the use of metaphors, such as the slow spiral and free fall, which depict the intense emotions of being out of control and helpless. The use of repetitions in the chorus highlights the singer's obsession with the person addressed, as they repeat the phrase "a thousand years" in each line, suggesting that even the most extended time frame wouldn't be enough for them to move on. The song is reflective, melancholic, and the feelings described are relatable to anyone who has ever experienced emotional attachment.

It's a nice surprise to see you
I'm happy to unexpectedly reunite with you
Christ, you look even better than before
Your appearance has improved, wow!
It's not fair to ask if I still want you
It's inappropriate to ask if I'm still interested in you
When you know I need you even more
I require your presence now more than ever
I'm glad we're both alright now
It's good that we're both doing well
We've got ourselves back under control
We've regained our composure
We're just living day to day
We're taking each day as it comes
And we're sticking, we're sticking to our role
We're fulfilling our duties without wavering
But if I lived a thousand years
If I had an eternity
Everyday I'd think of you
You would be on my mind every single day
Do you think I'll see them through?
Do you think I can make it that far?
Sometimes it feels just like a slow spiral
At times, it feels like I'm spiraling downwards slowly
Spinning round, sinking down, down, down below
Round and round I go, deeper and deeper into darkness
Out of control I'm in a slow spiral
I feel powerless and trapped in this cycle
And I'm free falling into the dark and cold
I'm descending into an abyss of despair and emptiness
No it's nobody's fault what happened
No one is to blame for what occurred
There is nothing anybody can do
There is no remedy for what happened
It's not that long
A thousand years isn't as lengthy as it sounds
No, I said a thousand years is not that long
I insist, a millennium is not that extended
I think I'll see them through
I believe I can endure for that long

I can only agree that they should be Superstars. 20 years ago I sang A thousand years with them on stage in the ''Alten hallenbad'' in Heidelberg. It was amazing to sing with them in front of 2000 People
