walk the walk
Face to Face Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I could be like you
I could be alone and jaded
Wondering what to do until they say
I could be like you
Angry and intoxicated
Wondering what to do to make them pay

And will I find a way
Can I make them see
And make them all believe you're wrong
Your ill intentions don't belong

I hear you talk the talk

But I don't see you walk the walk
And I still don't believe a thing you say

Overall Meaning

The song "Walk The Walk" by Face to Face is a powerful commentary on the difference between actions and words. The first verse explores the idea of conformity and how easy it is to fall into the same patterns as those around us. The singer acknowledges that they could choose to be "alone and jaded" like the people they see around them, but they refuse to do so. Instead, they reject anger and intoxication as a solution to their problems. They refuse to "make them pay" for their own unhappiness.

The second verse is a defiant statement of the singer's intentions. They will find a way to make others see and believe that those who act with ill intentions are wrong. The chorus is a direct challenge to those who only talk about what they believe, but do not follow through with action. The singer has heard enough empty talk and is not swayed by mere words. They require proof and action from others in order to believe in what they say.

Overall, "Walk The Walk" is a call to action for those who talk about making changes but do not follow through. It rejects the idea of conformity and encourages the listener to stand up for themselves and refuse to be like everyone else. The song promotes the idea that words are not enough, and action is required to bring about true change.

Perhaps the most under-rated band of all-time. Shame most people don't even know about them.

i was 16 yrs old in 1996. the critics said face to face self titled was soft, a sell out. those same critics were silenced, by the fans and the shows and the mosh pits. Now 20 yrs later, i still want to hit the pit to this song. this whole album is classic 10/10.

Michael Somer Hell Yeah! Me too! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Saw them in the mid 90's like three times 👍

@maluorno

those shows were epic. The kind of mosh pit where if you fell you got picked up. If you got a shoe in the head by a guy crowdsurfing, he said SORRY! Everyone singing along, Everyone smiling and sweaty. Everybody jumping around like happy idiots

Got kicked out of a Lancaster PA show this summer. Punks aren't what they were 20 years ago

@cheapenstein

I think this album was their pinnacle, they were just fantastic on it start to finish
