The youngest of the five children of José Fares, Lebanese immigrant to Brazil, and Dona Francisca, Fagner was born in Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará, although his birth was recorded in Orós.
At the age of five years he won a youth competition at a local radio station. As a teen, he formed vocal and instrumental groups and began to compose his own music. In 1968 he won the Festival de Música Popular do Ceará (Popular Music Festival of Ceará) with his song "Nada Sou" (I am Nothing).
In 1971 he moved to the capital Brasília, taking first place in the Festival de Música Popular do Centro de Estudos Universitários de Brasília (Popular Music Festival of the University Studies Center of Brasília) with his piece "Mucuripe" (with collaborator Belchior), which was later recorded by artist Elis Regina, and became Fagner's first notable success as a composer. He won prizes in other categories with additional pieces, as well.
He has had a distinguished career as a performer, singer, songwriter and composer for over 3 decades, and is also known for his collaborations with other MPB artists such as Caetano Veloso, Roberta Miranda, Chico Buarque and others.
Horas Azuis
Fagner Lyrics

Meu cão andaluz
Estou a teus pés
Não vejo a cidade sem nós dois
Momentos depois
Nem sei quem tu és
Cai sobre nós
Molhando bocas em palavras de paixão
A tua voz
E o tempo vai
Despedaçando na lembrança
Um rosto de mulher
A felicidade acabou
Volta meu amor
Eu quero te ver
Vivo o teu perfume que ficou
Oh deusa do amor
Não sei te esquecer
The lyrics to Fagner's song Horas Azuis speak of longing and nostalgia. The phrase "horas azuis" (blue hours) is a metaphor for a time of day when everything seems melancholic and introspective. The singer's desire is directed towards a person who seems to have left him, represented in the second verse as "um rosto de mulher" (a woman's face). The line "Não sei quem tu és" (I don't know who you are) adds to the sense of unfulfilled connection, a yearning for intimacy and recognition.
The rain falling on the lovers is a classic image in romantic literature, and here it is used to enhance the idea that their relationship was passionate and intense while it lasted. The phrase "molhando bocas em palavras de paixão" (drenching mouths in words of passion) suggests that their communication was not just verbal but also physical and sensual. However, time has passed, and the singer is left with nothing but memories and a sense of loss. The final verse expresses the hope that the beloved will return, and the admission that despite trying, the singer cannot forget them.
Overall, the song is a beautiful expression of the transformative power of love and the bittersweet experience of its ache when it's gone. It's a reminder that even when something is over, it can still be cherished and revered in memory.
