Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Which One Is It?" by Frank Zappa appear to be about the confusion and absurdity that can come with fame and the media. Zappa seems to be expressing frustration with the ways in which he is perceived and portrayed by the press and the public. He sings about how everyone seems to have an opinion about him, and how they all see him in different ways - some as a genius, others as a freak, and others as something in between.

Zappa also seems to be commenting on the way that the media often twists and distorts the truth in order to create a story. He sings about how people are always looking for a scandal, and how they will often invent one if there is none to be found. He seems to suggest that this is all part of a larger cultural sickness, a kind of societal neurosis that causes people to be obsessed with fame and celebrity.
