Born in Jamaica in 1965, Blake was born blind but as a child had his sight partially restored by an operation on a hospital ship. He sang for, and impressed Stevie Wonder when Wonder visited the school that Blake attended, prompting him to pursue a singing career.
Adopting the stage name Frankie Paul, he first found fame in the early 1980s, and he recorded prolifically throughout the decade. He has recorded for virtually every producer and studio in Jamaica at some time, and has been known to release several albums a year.

Notable works of Frankie Paul include the popular "Sara" and "Worries in the Dance".

Paul has resided in Gambia since 1994. In January 2016 he underwent surgery to amputate a foot and part of his leg.

Frankie Paul died on 18 May 2017 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.

My friend passed away from diabetes ca he ignored the doctors advise, ate what he shouldn't and didn't tell us, he lost a leg and after that, he passed away so he could have been prevented. R.I.P

Frankie passed away One Day before my Earthstrong, very Sad. An Artist Manager's Job is to take care of the Artiste wellbeing, mentally or physically who they're managing. He really did not get the recognition he deserved with a massive music catalogue.

That's why they should have a Hall of Fame in Jamaica.
All our Foundation Veteran's should have been laid to rest in Heroe's Circle who contributed to the Reggae Industry and recognition. I agree with everything your saying Queen, we in the UK feature Frankie Paul's music and around Europe in our Dance's and Radio Stations.

Very touching documentary. Sister I empathize with you. I can attest to a lot of what you've said, in the period 2000 - 2006 he used to call me from your house and at one point when you were in England, then when you go out to US. Everything you've said is true. I voiced frankie and he's made me several tracks in my studio in Connecticut. Very talented man. I think they really killed him, used him and abused him. Jamaican politicians are not genuine people, there should have been a burying ground for Jamaican artist and musicians. I have nothing to do with politicians, and we Jamaicans will beg you to death and run you to wreck while on your death bed. Jamaica give nothing back to the talented that put us on the map. I'm particularly feeling hurt after hearing the sister's. People are quick to judge. As said by Job, the tongue of the people is always a problem. Thank you very much for sharing this story Newlink. Honestly many musicians make a lot of money and don’t remember their families and spend their money on women, drugs and friends. I also think that his producers and managers plaid him, way back in the early eighties his procurer put out 24 of his songs in one month, not one year, yes one month, if you don’t believe me you can ask Barry G who used to be in JBC radio in the early eighties, his evening show had a program where they used to feature new music that just released and they mentioned why was a producer so stupid to put out so many song by an artist back to back. Anyways Frankie Paul was very talented and should have gotten much better respect from the society.

When he pass I was quite shock to know he died with no money and no one around him ...
I didn't even see any of the artist he sang with come together to support his death.
I've seen where some of them bury at the cemetery and it's like nothing people just step over dem grave shocking cause there music live on she speak truth about the industry ...

I listened to his music as a young girl and enjoyed it. He had an amazing voiced. and delivery. It seems his career was.sucessful, but as usual with these artists, they end up with this ugly end. Based on what his sister is saying, it's clear he did not handle his business well. We all have to realize that nothing lasts forever and life does change as we go along. We cannot work forever, and we do get sick. If he was diabetic and hypertensive, that will definitely damage his kidneys and cause them to fail. Also, that gangrened leg could have caused his blood to be infected, hence his body becoming septic. We all have personal responsibilities and must be aware of that. This sister's frustration is not always well placed.

Frankie was a very good artist, but he didn't get the business side of his proffesion right. He did tons of music for different producers. He surrounded himself with the wrong persons, and was used by many, without compensation. Let this be a warning to all professionals, get your act together. Family is very important, treat them well, learn the business side of whatever you do. For such a talented artist, it's very sad to see how he went out. Very sad indeed.

I met this man in the 90s at the Oceania Hotel I followed a friend was the most uncomfortable experience in my life there was about 30 men in his room he had two floors in the hotel all rooms smoking, drinking and some things I can't say here I stood at the door and didn't move couldn't wait to leave good singer but wasted his money

Jamaica music industry is a sea of Pirates and con artists. Despite the government having a ministery of culture, the government has never taken the effort to put musician in organization.
What I see now is that nobody can't keep a dance with a permit, and you have to pay to play whatever music you want to play. WTF!

My early comments about one of the greatest artist to come out of Jamaica.
Frankie lived in a nice house not far from me in the gambia and I remember music coming from his home anytime he was in the gambia.
I was devasted that he had to be begging for financial help when he was sick. It just shows you the mindset of people. I cannot the reggae industry totally but he should have had a better management team to assist him. Rip in peace frankie

Wow! You are a blessing. I appreciate your kindness towards your brother. You could have neglected him because of how he behaved towards you and the family, however you supported him as you should do. I know you are still in pain and hope that you will overcome some of them. You are correct about the recognition of his life and death. I too believed that he should have been buried amongst the greatest and his life celebrated by even the media. He chose strangers over family, he needed family when he needed help because the charities and that's exactly what they were, no longer had any use for him. He gave the best of him to charities, and the wine dregs to family members to look after, him. Talk about a kick in the teeth!

Why is it that musician all over the world when they die there is a scandal after. and Jamaica is no different. look at Toots the Legend family quarrelling over where to bury. These people need to put their life inorder while they are alive so that their family don't suffer for that. I empathize with you sister, I hope you find peace and move on.
