I enjoeyd every pokemon game I have played, played online competitively, farmed and bred pokemon for hundreds of hours every time a new pokemon game came out since X&Y.
I was super excited to play scarlet and violet, I waited for those games, followed the leaks and and speculations..
I pressed play the moment the game was playable and was just devastated honestly.
I didnt expect the games to be breath of the wild, I didnt expect the games to be super polished or anything more than sword and shield tbh. Never in my life was I this disappointed, these were the first pokemon games I played and never touched again, I could barely get through the story because of how bad the game FELT, not looked, I dont care if I can count the frames of an animation as long as it actually makes performance good, makes the game feel good to play..
Even bdsp (which was the worst pokemon game they have ever released prior to sv) was enjoyable to me, I could play it without wanting to break my controller.
Yes pokemon games have never been breath of the wild level games.
No thats not what Im even looking for let alone expecting...
But at the very least they should make them feel good... you cant honestly tell me that after legends arceus, which was not perfect by any means but by far one of the best games they put out in recent years and felt amazing to play, they release a game that looks worse, plays worse, feels worse, and overall is just the biggest disappointment in my recent memory.
I dont think I have changed, I think my standards are completely grounded and realistic even for pokemon. Scarlet and violet should have been taken off the shelves the day they came out and rereleased a year later. If I were the game designer or even just a programmer or an artist who worked on that project I would have been ashamed to tell people that.
Your points may be valid to idiots who live on reddit, but the core audiance of pokemon knew exactly what to expect and were all let down.
Star movie's
I just want to EXPLORE the world and have that feeling of “Oh I have to get past this challenge (of a gym for example) to be able to explore new parts and continue the story.” I want to explore weird mansions behind some stuf that I couldn’t get to earlier. I want to suddenly side track from the main path and find a cave. Than enter to see if I need the move “flash” on my team or not. But first go back to heal, make preparations for a cave journey by entering the store, buying repels and escape ropes. Than venturing piton my own cave adventure to find some secrets or items or cool Pokémon that you couldn’t find anywhere else.
I want to get lost in a maze of a forest or a cave. Or some mysterious puzzle kind of things to make my way through or across some stuf. I want to bash into random houses, seeing what their up to hoping someone will give me a free cool item or smth.😂
I want to talk to random npc’s, not already SEE their text pop up above them when approaching.
Not being able to ENTER actual buildings in a CITY, was the biggest turn of for me. There was no exploring factor anymore. City’s or towns felt like a waste of time. If you do it like that, just give me an inhabited wild island instead of “trying” to pretend there’s a city by just placing copy pasted models down without interior. Lazy to the max!
And I don’t really care about the lacking animation stuf like a Pokémon just jumping and than landing a physical move. Cause it’s always been like that back in the day, so that’s not even a problem for me now.
It’s the lack of depth.
Lastly that terraforming shit piece of a feature? Some people think it’s good and balanced, and cause you can use it a lot, really feels like part of the game.
I think it’s just like they where done creating the game, and where like “Oh shit we forgot to add a catchy gimmick to market the game.😮 How about we just give each type an ugly hat, make them glossy like crystals and making the moves feel “special”. Let them use that once per fight. Done 👍
They didn’t even know how it integrated in to their “story” (whatever that was) so they where like “Yeah let’s just pretend we knew, and include it in the dlc so we can think about it a bit more.”.
Am I the only one who feels that way?
Say Mega evolution for example, by no means was that perfect. But it was HYPE. The games X and Y felt really centered around that feature with world building and including it in the story, and the build up to you using it. It was also almost unique to certain few people in that region so you felt special. Every time I used it, I got hyped.
Now terraforming just feels like an everyday thing with everyone using it. Boring. Never felt special to me, even in trailers before the game released. Only thing I thought was “What da f is that ugly thing on his head? Ruins the whole Pokémon model.😕”
I don’t mind the 3D change (cause I can look past my nostalgia factor), but objectively comparing the CONTENT of the region to explore and do and find out, from Gen 4, to now Gen 9 … . You gotta tell me older regions where more fun to explore. Which was one of the main reasons I played. Even Sword and Shield already had the problem of not being able to enter many buildings. So yeah, after the good games Sun and Moon and their later “Ultra versions” of those game. My love and hyped kinda died away. Almost came back with the Gen 4 remakes. But that also died when noticing they didn’t even include the BEST changes from Pokémon Platinum.😔 I was finally hyped but than thought, how can they be SO DUMB. The remake (Platinum) was THERE FOR A REASON!!! So yeah there went that hype. Either make the region the same but not in cheeby style anymore, or remake it fully but with the Platinum changes, especially with the Pokedex changes from Platinum.
Oh well, I don’t think anyone’s gonna read this fully, but it was fun to rant about my frustrations anyway.😂 Thanks for reading, and your opinions are always welcome, I’ll read and probably answer.👍

Did anyone else notice at 6:36 the Super Game Boy colored screen on the Game Boy Pocket? I noticed those shenanigans!

Talking about attack animations, I think the way wild Pokémons attack you in Legends Arceus was peak. Seeing a red eyed, 10 foot tall moon bear charge towards you is how we wanted Pokémons to act.
Mortem Incarnatam
Is it though? The thing move like it on treadmills.

Yeah legends arceus is peak, I wish they based all games off it

Arceus is parallel to gen 9, they didn't make it worse, they just didn't make it the same way, Arceus did have a bunch of better decisions, unfortunately most will likely never see mainline because their design effects competitive, if they'd been a bit smarter with Gen 9 and not gone with Terastals to support raid style multiplayer I think these games would probably be everything people wanted though much less engaging but that is always their style... Go for the hat trick nobody asked for.
