Um... I'm a little curious, have you battled Hop for the 10th time? That's in the Slumbering Wealds, where Hop gets his doggie and challenges you for the last time.

It seems like that there's this plot where Hop will arrive on the Isle of Armor after he gets beat up by you the last time and decides to work for Professor Sonia as an assistant. He claims that he's sent here by Sonia while Sonia is researching in the Crown Tundra. Then there will be the plot to search for Max Honey with Hop together.
If Hop is still waiting in the Slumbering Wealds, Mustard will say that you have something else to take care of, just like we saw in the last part of the video.

If Gamefreak really wanted to be cheeky, they could've had Mustard say, "Oh, I noticed Kubfu isn't in your party or your boxes. No matter! I have plenty more for this occasion! You're definitely going to need Kubfu for this training! **grins mischievously**" and then he just gives you another one nonchalantly and the game can continue. That'd have my sides splitting.

But at the same time, I love how the actual result is the game basically saying, "Oh you don't want to use the main focus pokemon for this DLC? Well....okay! Here, just do whatever you want, go nuts. No further priorities for you since you went and skipped everything!"

"Kubfu ran back to the dojo" then give a malus in friendship points would be the most logical explaination if you release it. As for trade/home a flag could be there in which case it lock you in the alternative "do you want to challenge the towers without him?" route until the one with ID matching your save's Kungfu ID is back. (or any other kubfu I guess?)

Just so people know, you can have up to 8 saves on a switch via profiles. All profiles on your main switch can use the DLC, so unless you had run the story 8 times already, there’s no reason you would have needed to spend another $30 to get a Kubfu.

I think that Mustard gave us Urshifu because he sees an incredible potential in us, but to release him in the wild for him must be like what happened to Leon before. Maybe we're not ready or just want to take another choices in life. He must feel a little bad about it but still respect our decision. There's no need to be upset after all. He still welcomes us to his isle but do not try to convince us back, just wait until the day we may reconsider and finish our training with him.

If there's one thing I find more questionable than the idea of releasing Kubfu, it's the fact that Mustard and the Tower Guards have clearly hacked your Trainer's personal data and used that to find out what Pokémon you've stored away in your PC boxes.

The final part of the DLC can't be played until you finish Hops' storyline in the main game, that is why Mustard says something about 'The next step can wait until PDWinnall does what he needs to do' so there is a little bit more to do

@TheWaterbreath You can release that Castform. You've probably watched the video when a guy tried to complete the game with only Mudkip and was unable to release it. You must have at least two Pokemon to be able to trade, so the game won't let you release any of your last two Pokemon as a protection against softlocking yourself.

They should have programmed it similarly to attempting to release the only Pokemon in a box that has a hidden move. Instead of the Pokemon disappearing, it would come back because it was worried about you. But in this case have Kubfu come back because it's not confident enough to be on its own!

I mean, Leon did train at the dojo as well, so he must have gone through one of the towers too with his Charizard, since he has no Kubfu. It actually makes a lot of sense that you are able to continue without Kubfu, what a nice surprise!

If they anticipated you soft locking yourself in HGSS (if you get to Cyanwood and don’t have a Pokemon capable of using Surf ie you released all mons that could learn it, an NPC will give you a Tentacool so that you aren’t trapped on the island), then I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a lot of places that they anticipated someone soft locking the game and providing options to help the player out.

While we're here I'm just gonna say that I avoided the diglett in front of the bridge by going the long way around via the water and never had to bother with the diglett searching (unless I walk up to it ) and while I may not get my Alolan vulpix because of it I still prefer this over having to suddenly get the urge to diglett hunt

If you give kubfu an everstone, mustard will just ask you if you are sure that you want to spend more time with kubfu and then tell you that if you change your mind you can just go to the top of the tower you chose to evolve kubfu

What happens if you trade Kubfu away, complete one of the towers, and trade it back? Are you unable to challenge the towers again, leaving you stuck with a Kubfu that's unable to evolve?

Releasing kobfu is nothing like something I did. When I was younger an uncle gave me his old game boy and games one of those games was Pokémon fire red. He had every event pokemon and a complete pokedex. I wanted to play and start my own game and I without knowing you can't have multiple game files, started a new game.

So, I don't know if uve already played the main story of sword and shield but to be able to battle Mustard, u need to have completed the after-story of sword and shield to make Hop appear in the Isle of armor

Hasn't there been a specific case in like, every pokemon game where a released pokemon will come back if it's your last pokemon or if it's the only one you have that can learn/knows an HM move? I guess since HMs aren't necessary, maybe they just didn't have that in the game anymore?

Uh id like to ask a question about this. Is it possible for you to put kubfu into pokemon home and then do either one of the towers. After doing that can you transfer kubfu back and still evolve it?

You can also go through it again if you delete your save data. If you're willing to delete your game then it isn't totally gone forever.

So Master Mustard will not continue to battle after the dojo until you fight the brothers and defeat all of the maxed pokemon in the gyms again. Thats why hes saying you need to finish doing what you need to do first. Hop hasn’t returned to the island yet. When you returned to the dojo he wasn’t waiting for you.

I know this is an older video, but you when Mustard says you need to “do what must be done”, he means you need to beat the main story and post credit story of the main game. After you do that, you can return to him and fight Mustard for the final time after you get the honey to gigantamax your kubfu.

I’d be interested to see what happens with that part of the story if you don’t have a Kubfu haha

How legendary and powerful is Kubfu? Not just anyone can catch it? It's not like a traditional Fighting type runt (like Machop or Tyrouge)? Same question for Urshifu. Is its position, power, and rareness equivalent to Regirock? What would it be like if they battled?

Idk, I think the developers keeping the idea of a player releasing Kubfu in mind isn’t too much of a stretch, these are the same guys who thought of everything a player could have done NOT to catch the scripted Eternatus and counter it (such as filled PC or no Pokeballs)

@PogChamp Basically, if you fill every single space of your PC, even after your PC has expanded, when you catch Eternatus, a completely extra PC box is added exclusively for that situation. And it is only unlocked in this situation, if you look up some videos, they’ll have a better explanation

Fun fact: buying the physical copy with the built in expansion pass makes it able to make a new switch profile, while still having the expansion pass, so basically, any account you make, you can get kubfu on for no additional money.

I don’t think you beaten the original post game (where you catch Zacian/Zamazenta and hop receives Zacian/zamazenta) before doing this, and that why you can’t trigger the next story with hop and then the final battle with mustard. BTW you can still evolve Kubfu into urshifu (form depends on the tower you went to) even if you went through it without Kubfu the first time. I tested it by putting my Kubfu in Pokémon home, doing the trial without it, then putting it back in my game and then go back to the tower I’ve beaten and interact with the scroll with Kubfu in my party.

If you don’t want to release your kubfu but u want to get this dialogue, then send kubfu to Pokemon home, yes you wont get the evolution but you will still have kubfu.
