Throughout the 90's, Ghoulspoon forged its own path and gained a reputation and following in the SoCal area through hard work and regional touring with the likes of Incubus, Korn, 311, Deftones, No Doubt, Sublime, Kid Rock, System of a Down, Static-X, Sugar Ray, Foo Fighters, The Cult, Snot, Kottonmouth Kings, Powerman 5000, and (hed) pe among many others. The band earned a huge fan base and many accolades including handfulls of San Diego Music Awards nominations and 1 win for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Band" in 2001.
Over its career, Ghoulspoon released several demos and 3 albums - “To Serve Man (1993)”, “Medication (1996)”, and “Fever (1999)”, selling over 10,000 units without the help of a manager, booking agent, or major record label. After going through years of lineup changes and enough scandal and debauchery to fill a two part VH1 Special, the band changed a few members and was reborn as Divided by Zero in 2002.
Biter
Ghoulspoon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If I ever need it
I'll ask for it back
Drop the pistol from your hand
If you let me inside your head
I'll make you understand
You betrayed me
Your eyes run cold now from your lust
I don't want to sound selfish
But you betrayed my trust
Can you ever just go home?
If I were in the doorway
You would stand alone
Betrayed
My eyes can't hold back the tears
We all will do what we will
Usually become what we fear
And I am about to kill
In Ghoulspoon's song Biter, the lyrics revolve around the theme of betrayal and how it can affect a person deeply. The opening lines, "Take the knife out of my back, If I ever need it, I'll ask for it back" suggest that the singer has been betrayed and hurt by someone close and the knife represents the betrayal. The lyrics suggest that the singer may possibly forgive the person and even ask for the knife back, but it remains to be seen if they will ever fully trust them again.
The next few lines, "Drop the pistol from your hand, If you let me inside your head, I'll make you understand" imply that the singer is trying to reason with the person who betrayed them. They want the person to let go of their anger and let them in, so that they can explain and maybe even reconcile. However, as the song progresses, the lyrics become more aggressive and the singer's anger and hurt becomes more evident, as seen in the lines "Your eyes run cold now from your lust, I don't want to sound selfish, But you betrayed my trust". The singer feels that they have been unfairly hurt and that the other person's actions were selfish.
The final stanza, "My eyes can't hold back the tears, We all will do what we will, Usually become what we fear, And I am about to kill" has a very dark and menacing tone. It suggests that the singer is on the brink of doing something violent and drastic as a result of the betrayal. The lyrics also suggest that the person who betrayed them may have brought out negative feelings and tendencies in the singer that they have been trying to avoid. The song ends on a very ominous note, leaving the listener to wonder what will happen next.
