Chiara
Gino Paoli Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
These lyrics describe a person named Chiara who is characterized by her pure and clean reputation. The songwriter emphasizes Chiara's name throughout the song, comparing it to a clothing that she wears. These lines suggest that Chiara stands out in a world full of cautious and reserved people who may admire her but never give her anything in return. Despite facing obstacles, Chiara's name carries a sense of determination, like that of a soldier who fights for a cause. This reflects her perseverance in fighting for something she believes in, which is symbolically compared to a flag that resembles a prayer.
The chorus delves deeper into Chiara's mindset and actions. The songwriter addresses her directly, expressing concern over her excessive expenditure of love. It is suggested that Chiara gives her love freely and abundantly, perhaps without realizing the consequences. The repetition of the phrase "come se non fosse chiaro" (as if it were not clear) emphasizes a sense of warning or urgency to make Chiara aware of the potential losses she faces each day. The lyrics imply that even though Chiara spends more love than she possesses, she continues to do so, indicating a pattern of self-sacrifice.
The closing lines of the chorus carry a tone of resignation. The songwriter compares Chiara to her mother, who still believes in unreachable dreams, such as the moon. Chiara's mother constantly gives more than she has, does more than expected, and knows more than others. This comparison suggests that Chiara is following in her mother's footsteps, perpetuating a cycle of selflessness and sacrifice.
Overall, the lyrics of "Chiara" paint a portrait of a person named Chiara who possesses a pure and determined character. She is admired by others for her powerful presence, but her excessive expenditure of love is causing her to lose something precious each day. The song also hints at the influence of her mother, who represents an unwavering belief in unattainable ideals.
