Suvetar
Gjallarhorn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Suvetar, fine matron
Arise to see the seeds
Raise the matron´s corn
So that we may be spared pain

Manutar, matron of the earth
Lift up the shoots from the ground
New shoots from the stumps
So that we may be spared pain

Suvetar, fine matron
Arise to see the seeds
Raise the matron´s corn
So that we may be spared pain

Manutar, matron of the earth
Lift up the shoots from the ground
New shoots from the stumps
So that we may be spared pain

Feed us with honey-eats
Give us honey-drink
Delicious honey-grass
On a blossoming knoll

You have shining silver
You have glistening gold
You have shining silver
You have glistening gold

Suvetar, fine matron
Arise to see the seeds
Raise the matron´s corn
So that we may be spared pain

Manutar, matron of the earth
Lift up the shoots from the ground
New shoots from the stumps
So that we may be spared pain

Feed us with honey-eats
Give us honey-drink
Delicious honey-grass
On a blossoming knoll

You have shining silver
You have glistening gold
You have shining silver
You have glistening gold

Rise up, O maiden black from the soil
Rise up, O maiden black from the soil

Underground crone
Most ancient of Nature´s daughters
Make the peat shoot forth
And the ground turn over

Underground crone
Most ancient of Nature´s daughters
Lift up a thousand seedlings
To reward my efforts

Suvetar, fine matron
Arise to see the seeds
Raise the matron´s corn
So that we may be spared pain

Manutar, matron of the earth
Lift up the shoots from the ground
New shoots from the stumps
So that we may be spared pain

Feed us with honey-eats
Give us honey-drink
Delicious honey-grass
On a blossoming knoll

You have shining silver
You have glistening gold
You have shining silver
You have glistening gold

Rise up, O maiden black from the soil
Rise up, O maiden black from the soil

Underground crone
Most ancient of Nature´s daughters
Make the peat shoot forth
And the ground turn over

Underground crone
Most ancient of Nature´s daughters

Lift up a thousand seedlings
To reward my efforts

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Suvetar" by Gjallarhorn sing praises to the matrons of nature and the earth. Suvetar, the "fine matron," is called upon to raise the seeds and corn so that the people may be spared pain. Her counterpart, Manutar, the "matron of the earth," is asked to lift up the shoots from the ground and create new growth so that pain may also be avoided.

The lyrics also ask for sustenance in the form of honey-eats, honey-drinks, and delicious honey-grass on a blossoming knoll. The matrons are said to possess shining silver and glistening gold, which also emphasizes their wealth and power.

The lyrics then turn to the underground crone, the most ancient of nature's daughters, who is asked to make the peat shoot forth and the ground turn over. She is also asked to lift up a thousand seedlings to reward the singer's efforts. This section of the song highlights the interconnectedness of all aspects of nature and how each contributes to the success and abundance of the whole.

Overall, the lyrics of "Suvetar" are a tribute to the beauty and vitality of nature and the importance of cultivating and nurturing it.

SAME HERE! It was stuck in my head (ear worm) today and took me several searches to find it LOVE This song/band!

@Farbautisonn

Pretty weird though This is the only finnish music that has ever spoken to me. And Ive got a taste that reaches pretty wide. From Classic, over 17th century ballroom, Organ music by Bach, and onto Dean Frank and Sammy.

For me most music and artistic progress ended somewhere around 1955. What came after was utter shite. Especially so in these days. So its pretty rare that I find anything beyond there, that I actually appreciate. This is one of these rare cases.

@dbarshimon

@@Farbautisonnhave you listened to Jonne or Varrtina?

There’s so much more English people in the comment section that it’s unbelievable how much this tiny Finnish song has gone so far.(I’m from Finland)
