Drew
Goldfrapp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pull up the blinds
Open the door wide
Feel the cold arrive
In my bones

Put on my face
The way I dressed today
Feel like you tonight
On my day

Falling little more
You bumped and crashed in dirty snow
Up to our sin, I might as well
Melt into Sunday

Remember the time
We stood there by the lake
Watching boats and planes
Pretty white clouds

The sun will sweat
In fact the song begins
Trees are your skin
On my tongue

Falling little more
You bumped and crashed in dirty snow
Up to our sin, I might as well
Melt into Sunday

Pull up the blinds
Open the door wide
Feel the cold arrive
In my bones

You, me and more
We bumped and crashed in dirty snow
Up to our sin, we might as well
Melt into Sunday

La la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
We know you're, you're not how it seems
Don't have a point

You're not there for the stay
When I will wish you could
Wish that you were there

You could
You're dying in here

You could be here soon
You stumble on a river

Overall Meaning

Goldfrapp’s song “Drew” starts with the lines “Pull up the blinds/Open the door wide/Feel the cold arrive/In my bones”. These opening verses can be interpreted as the singer being ready to confront the harsh realities of her life. She is ready to open herself up to them and let them in, to feel the full weight of their impact. Moving on with the lyrics, she talks about putting on a facade, an external face that hides how she truly feels on the inside. She then reminisces about a past time where she watched the world go by with someone she cares about, and how the memory of that time now feels bittersweet.

The chorus repeats the lines “Falling little more/You bumped and crashed in dirty snow/Up to our sin, I might as well/Melt into Sunday”. These lines can be interpreted as the inevitability of mistakes and bad decisions that people make. The phrase “up to our sin” represents how far the singer and her partner have gone, and the singer is resigned to their circumstances. The last verse “You’re dying in here/You could be here soon/You stumble on a river” has a melancholic feel to it, with the singer almost sounding like she’s pleading to her partner. She recognizes that her partner is potentially losing themselves in their shared experiences, and she’s imploring them to save themselves before it’s too late.

Haunting and mesmerising!! This is the old Goldfrapp...has the feel of Felt Mountain but with so much more. The Orchestra. From 3.49 her vocals a sublime. A banshee calling us all in so she can devour our souls. I love this song, and video and cannot wait for the Album. Bravo GOLDFRAPP!!

When this album came out I was working as a security guard doing the night shift, a big traffic queue to the last 1 mile into work. I used to love that queue, looking at other drivers next to me and wondering what they were listening to and wondering why I was so content for the queue to go on forever with this album on. There was a night nurse whose  surname was DREW, it was my favourite track... she knew of Goldfrapp.best track now , in my mind is CLAY.
