Grinspoon changed their sound to more mainstream rock by their 2002 album, New Detention, gaining fans and peaking at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Charts; similarly 2007's Alibis & Other Lies also reached No. 2. Their 2004 album, Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills, which peaked at No. 4, won the 2005 'Best Rock Album Award' at the ARIA Music Awards.
The band was signed to Universal Records in United States by late 1998, they were promoted by the songs "Champion", which featured in Gran Turismo 3; "Post Enebriated Anxiety", which was on the international version of Guide to Better Living; "Chemical Heart", via the internet; and a cover of the Prong song "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck", from Grinspoon's Pushing Buttons EP, which was included on ECW: Extreme Music.
On 4 December 2013, they announced that they were going on an indefinite hiatus to pursue individual projects.
All The Time
Grinspoon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Grinspoon's song All The Time are somewhat nonsensical and hard to interpret. They seem to be a combination of random phrases and imagery without any clear narrative or message. The first line mentions a picture of a whale being sold, which leads to the singer ending up in jail. This image is followed by a reference to a "fancy rocket roll superstar" with a "pointing guitar," which might suggest a rock star who is known for flashy showmanship and guitar solos. The next line mentions "fight was red," which could be a reference to a violent altercation.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Would you be loud all the time, alright" multiple times, suggesting that the singer is asking someone if they would always be loud and boisterous. The verses continue with more random imagery, mentioning an "air accessory" that needs to be killed, and something being "blown" or "ruined" at the back. There is also a mention of someone wanting to pour the singer's cup of tea. The song seems to be a string of disconnected phrases and questions without any clear meaning or intent.
Overall, the lyrics of All The Time are difficult to interpret and seem to be a collection of nonsense phrases and random imagery. It is unclear what message, if any, the song is trying to convey.
