Wo-o-oo-wo-wo,
Wo-o-oo-wo-wo,
Wo-o-oo-wo-wo
When the deep purple falls
Over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle in the night
In the mist of a memory
Breathing my name with a sigh
In the still of the night
Once again I hold you tight
Tho' you're gone your love lives on when light beams
And as long as my heart will beat
Sweet lover, we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
When the deep purple falls
Over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle
In the night
In the mist of a memory
You wander all back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh
In the still of the night
Once again I hold you tight
Tho' you're gone your love lives on when moonlight beams
And as long as my heart will beat
Sweet lover, we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
And as long as my heart will beat
Sweet lover, we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
Wo-o-oo-wo-wo,
Wo-o-oo-wo-wo,
Wo-o-oo-wo-wo
The lyrics of "Deep Purple" by Harry James and His Orchestra evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a lost love. The song transports the listener to a dream-like state where deep purple hues fall over sleepy garden walls, and stars twinkle in the night. It speaks to the power of memories, as the singer is taken back to a past love who calls out their name with a sigh.
The imagery of the deep purple and the twinkling stars creates a serene and romantic atmosphere. It symbolizes the magic and enchantment of a love that still lingers even though the person is physically gone. The lyrics express the desire to hold onto that love, even if it exists only in dreams. The lines "And as long as my heart will beat, Sweet lover, we'll always meet, Here in my deep purple dreams" suggest that the love between the singer and their lost lover will endure, even if it can only exist in the realm of dreams.
