Despite his personal struggles, he rose up during the 70's, the heyday of Salsa. He performed in sold out nightclubs, stadiums, and in some of the most prestigious concert halls. His recordings garnered him many awards and gold albums. His musical success is attributed to his extraordinary lyrical improvisations. His unique salsa flavor has remained without rival. Sadly, due to his losing battle with addiction to heroin, it played havoc with his career. There was a suicide attempt and ultimately he died from AIDS.
"El Cantante" (The Singer), a biopic based on Hector Lavoe's life, was releaded in 2006. Jennifer Lopez, who produced the film, also plays the role of one of his wives Puchi, while Marc Anthony portrays the ill-fated lead role.

The lyrics of Hector Lavoe's "Che Che Cole" encourage people to dance in the African style, and even offers to teach those who don't know how to dance. The song mentions several different styles of dance and encourages everyone to join in, regardless of their background. The song emphasizes unity and the common thread that connects different cultures through dance.
The chorus of the song lists different phrases, such as "Che Che Cole" and "Caca Chilanga," which are likely nonsense words or made-up phrases, possibly inspired by African rhythms. The song is essentially a celebration of life and joy that dancing brings, and it urges people to celebrate together.
The lyrics of "Che Che Cole" also acknowledge the African roots of the rhythms and dances mentioned in the song, highlighting the influence of African culture on the music and dance of Latin America. The song ultimately encourages listeners to join in the dance, and for those who don't know how to dance, to learn and celebrate together.

Kye kye kule in the chorus is a song sung by Ghanaian 🇬🇭children when they're playing, possibly where Hector borrows his inspiration for this song. Respect to Hector, love his songs and melodies.
