Salvador recorded several songs written with Boris Vian with Quincy Jones as arranger.
In the 60's Salvador was the television host of several popular TV variety shows on French TV.
Henri Salvador and his song "Dans mon île" (1957) is said to have unwittingly inspired bossa nova in Brazil, as Carlos Tom Jobim would have exclaimed on hearing the song "This is what you have to do! Slow down the tempo of samba, add a good melody and top it with beautiful chords!"
Caetano Veloso, a renowned brasilian composer and singer, made a direct reference at Salvador in his song "Reconvexo" : "quem não sentiu o swing de Heri Salvador ?" (who hasn't felt the swing of Henri Salvador ?)
In (1964) Henri Salvador scored a popular French hit with "Zorro est arrivé" (which was inspired by the English song "Along Came Jones"). His song "Mais non, mais non" (1969) inspired Jim Henson' song Mahna Mahna. These kind of comedy songs made him well known in France. He is also famous for his good nature and rich, catchy laugh, which is a standalone feature in many of his humoristic songs.
He has a brother, André, and a sister Alice. He became a musician and comedian. Later he uncovered new French talents Keren Ann and Art Mengo.

Mais tu sais, ton père, il commence à me courir sur le haricot
Ah la la alors…
Sur les bateaux qui frémissent,
Y a du soleil qui flamboie
Comme la vie serait jolie
Si tu étais à mon bras
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père,
On s'rait heureux
J’ sais bien ce qu'il me reproche
Je ne suis pas fonctionnaire
J' préfère mettre mes mains dans les poches
Pour m'en aller prendre l'air
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père,
On s'rait heureux
Oh ! Oui alors
Ton père il est très très embêtant
Oh la la alors
Il est petit et il prise
Il a des moustaches en croc
Comment ta mère fut-elle conquise
Par un pareil asticot ?
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père
Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père,
Il est affreux
Oh la la oui alors
Qu’est-ce qu’il est vilain
Il n’a rien de Marlon Brando
Mais ce matin dans ta chambre
T'en souviens-tu, mon aimée ?
Sans que personne ne puisse entendre
Je suis venu me cacher
Chouette ! Y avait pas ton père
Chouette ! Y avait pas ton père
Rien que nous deux
Aie aie aie aie aie aie aie
Que de baisers, de folies
Nous avons fait les idiots
Il serait mort d'une embolie
S'il était rentré plus tôt
Ah ! Y avait pas ton père
Ah ! Y avait pas ton père
J'étais heureux
Ah oui, alors, qu’est-ce que j’étais heureux
Enfin, oublions, oublions…
Et le soir, plein de courage
Je suis venu demander
Ta main et sans se mettre en rage
Ton papa m'a accepté
Ah ! Que j'aime mon beau-père
Ah ! Que j'aime mon beau-père
On est heureux !
The lyrics of the song "Oh ! Si y avait pas ton père" by Henri Salvador talks about the singer's love for a girl but complains about her father. The song's introduction starts with the singer expressing his affection for the girl but complaining about her father, who is getting on his nerves. He sings about how life would be wonderful if she were with him, away from her father. The first verse talks about the beauty of being out on boats, basking under the sun, and how it would be lovely if she were with him.
In the chorus, he repeats "Oh! Si y avait pas ton père" several times before stating that they would be happy if her father did not exist. The singer talks about the father's distaste for him because he is not a government worker, and he prefers to have his hands in his pockets, taking in fresh air. The second verse describes the father as small, snuffly, and with crooked mustaches, making the singer wonder how her mother fell for her father. He continues to express how much he dislikes the father, using Marlon Brando's image as a point of reference.
In the third verse, the singer narrates how he sneaked into his loved one's room, and they had a lovely time together without her father's interference. He reminisces about the kisses and all the fun they had before stating how happy he was that the father wasn't around to ruin things for them. The song's final verse tells us that he has now earned the father's blessing to marry his daughter, and he now loves him.
Overall, the song is quite cheeky and upbeat, with the singer complaining about the girl's father while also expressing his love for her. The song's tone is playful, and the lyrics are delivered in a fun and lighthearted way, making it an enjoyable listen.
