Then, in 2009, it was decided that it was to be made a children's comedy, historical sketch show. In 2011, the show had become very successful and has won many awards, such as Best Sketch Show at the BAFTAs. Series 4 began in April 2012, and the writers have already started writing series 5. Technically, after Edward VI came Queen Jane (The Nine Day Queen). Lady Jane Grey was Queen only for nine days before Mary I claimed her throne. Lady Jane Grey was then executed at age 16 for treason.

Jane was never legally recognized as Queen, and so she is omitted from the official listing of English monarchs. If she were to be included, then Matilda (the actual daughter of a King) would also have to be included, as she (unofficially) reigned for a few weeks before being ousted in a civil war due to her sex.

It has long amused me that Henry VIII was so intent on having a son that he overlooked Elizabeth, yet her reign not only surpassed his own, it was known as the Elizabethan Age. (BTW, in one of MaryJanice Davidson's novels about Betsy, Queen of the Vampires, Betsy visits Hell. One of the sights she sees there is Anne Boleyn overseeing Henry VIII getting HIS head chopped off over and over again. YES!)

Henry and Elizabeth ruled for decades. Its not comparable to the 5 years Mary ruled. So of course Henry and Elizabeth killed more, they had 30 plus years of rule in a time where executions were a thing sadly. Even though the people who scrutinise the label bloody are onto something. Many powerful women were smeared as grotesque later, or called seductresses when it was their intellect and charm which made them succesful, like Cleopatra.

I do feel a lot of pity for her. She had the makings of a great person - her mother was one of the most learned women of her time, and she was the eldest child of her father. She went through a lot of hardships before she became Queen, and just when she thought she was finally going to be happy, she ended up married to a man who couldn't stand her and kept mistresses. All in all, her lot wasn't a very happy one. As for the burning of heretics, I think she was afraid for their souls, really.
