In die nag is jy ‘n wolf
Dis net die lig wat ons twee skei
Na werk gaan ons saam in die hysbak ry
Jy’t jou eie kantoor
En ek het myne
Maar tussen jou en my
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
In die dag is ek ‘n valk
In die nag is jy ‘n wolf
Dis net die lig wat ons twee skei
Na werk gaan ons saam in die hysbak ry
Ek wonder of jy
Ook so voel oor my?
Lê jy ook in die nag
En dink aan my?
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
Soos die leeu en die lam
Nooit by mekaar gaan lê
Sal ek en jy
Gaan oor iets kan sê?
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer (Derde vloer)
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
Tussen die tweede en die derde vloer
Wens ek hierdie hysbak breek
The song "Die Hysbak Song" by Hugo speaks about two people who work in the same building and ride the elevator together every day after work. During the day, the singer describes himself as a "valk" (hawk) and the other person as a "wolf," who only are separated by the light that divides them as they work in their own separate offices. However, when they ride the elevator together, they are seemingly brought together. The singer wonders if the other person also shares his feelings towards them. The song has a melancholic tone, with the singer wishing that the elevator would break while they are between the second and third floor, which could create a possibility to express the feelings between them.
The song's lyrics symbolize how people can be very different on the surface, but underneath there is a desire that both parties share for more than just a superficial connection. The elevator ride represents an opportunity for them to share genuine moments, which is not possible in their work environment due to their positions and roles. The singer wants to explore whether there is a chance for them to be more than just work colleagues.
