@Prut Russel sounds right. another way to say it is with the page, time is defeated and removed:

I can write 'The sands of time on Omaha Beach ran slowly because now my hourglass was filled with coagulating blood: the more time I watched what transpired before my eyes, the thicker the blood'

and it may take me ten minutes to construct what takes 10 seconds to read. Writing can be like fireworks: time-consuming to build something that is enjoyed over a short duration of time.

if you write all the time, you wanna be interesting with words and pick and choose and ponder--if you do this while speaking, in real time, the results are not pretty.

I mean sometimes you can pull it off and say something clever and cool, and maybe even deep, that sounds smooth with no pauses or derailments--that's another thing: everything is related to everything else in some way, and many pauses in Hunter's speech pattern are him at a crossroads, choosing which direction to go and trying to see what's down various roads that may be interesting

"I feel the same way about disco as I do about herpes..." Catchy as hell!

some people write because they can convey their thoughts a billion times better than they can while talking.  some people are good talkers and actors because they can't really come up with shit on their own.
