Voices in Grey
I.O.N Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We are greater than this
We are stronger than before
There's no locking us in
We're not hopeless anymore

Everyone feels safe, safe on the inside
Holding on but never really alive
Everyone feels safe, safe in the outline
Holding on to the cage in your mind
To the cage in your mind

I've found a way to pull you from the life you hate
To somewhere real so you don't find your self lost in the grey
We are greater than this
We are stronger than before
There's no locking us in
We're not hopeless anymore

Don't tell me that you're, you're the same
There's nothing, no mold that I can't break
Don't tell me that you're full of shame
There's nothing, you're a rat that wants to bleed
I'm just a rat that wants to bleed

I've found a way to pull you from the life you hate
To somewhere real so you don't find your self lost in the grey
We are greater than this
We are stronger than before
There's no locking us in
We're not hopeless anymore

We're hopeless not helpless
There's more to life than what's in site
We're hopeless not helpless
We're hopeless not helpless
(Not helpless)

I've found a way
I've found a way
We are greater than this
We are stronger than before

There's no locking us in
We're not hopeless anymore

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to I.O.N.'s song Voices In Grey convey a message of hope and strength amid life's hardships. The first stanza highlights the group's sentiments of optimism, declaring that humans have the power to overcome their struggles and come out stronger than before. The lines "There's no locking us in, We're not hopeless anymore" signify the group's refusal to be subdued and their readiness to take control of their lives.

The second and third stanzas delve deeper into the intricacies of feeling caged and trapped in one's mind. The lines "Holding on but never really alive" and "Holding on to the cage in your mind" speak volumes to the pains of mental health issues. However, I.O.N.'s message is one of solidarity and hope as shown in "I've found a way to pull you from the life you hate, To somewhere real so you don't find yourself lost in the grey." The group is dedicated to not only advocating for those suffering from mental health issues but also providing them with the tools and resources they need to find their way out of the darkness.

The final stanza reminds listeners that while they may feel hopeless, they are never helpless. In "There's more to life than what's in sight," I.O.N. reinforces that there are endless possibilities and potential for growth beyond one's current circumstances. The overall tone of the song is uplifting, empowering, and provides a vital reminder that we are never truly hopeless, and one always has the power to change their own narrative.

Nok

Still pissed none of their music is on Spotify, I can't play it at my works speakers for everyone to hear (everyone is a metalhead at my job)

Sai Jin

Just play it through YouTube can't you?

Nok

@Sai Jin I can't, because I work at a warehouse where the Bluetooth speakers have really bad connections (I have to leave my phone there) so I'm constantly on the move and I'm not near the speakers

(Also nobody wants to hear YouTube ads lol)
