ILLUMINATE manage to combine classical elements, dance rhythms, electronic sound collages, romantic piano parts and heavy guitars without being unfaithful to their typical, unmistakable sound. After seventeen years of band history, 12 studio albums, world-wide life-performances, and having an enormous fan-base, ILLUMINATE are one of the most successful acts of the Alternative / Dark Wave-segment.

His works incorporate headbanging elements of Hard Bass Music with Melodic Trance Synths into Modern Electronic Dance Music. Although highly underrated, DJ Illuminate is known for his free EP, "Legacy", released at August of 2013.

The lyrics to Illuminate's song Weg Ins Licht speak about a child who has become like an angel, invisible to the world, and now lives in a world of pure light. The child is happy and carefree, "laughing with the clouds" and "playing with the wind", but their mother cannot follow them into this world. The child asks their mother to stay with them until they fall asleep and reassures her that soon it will all be over.
The child then describes how they will rise up from the depths of the sky and allow their mother to see the abyss. They will travel through the morning wind and eventually disappear in the sunlight. The child again reminds their mother that they cannot follow them into this world of pure light, and that soon the last ray of light will be exhausted. The song ends with the child repeating their request for their mother to stay with them until they fall asleep.
The lyrics of this song are open to interpretation, but it can be seen as a metaphor for death and the afterlife. The child has passed away and is now experiencing a new, enlightened realm, free from the limitations of the physical world. The mother is left behind, unable to join the child, but comforted by the fact that their child is in a better place.
