Incubus is a five-man alternative rock band formed in 1991, based in Calabasas, California. Members include Brandon Boyd (vocals and percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Ben Kenney (bass), Jose Pasillas II (drums) and DJ Chris Kilmore (turntables). Former members of the band include Gavin Koppel (a.k.a. DJ Lyfe) (turntables) and Alex Katunich (a.k.a. Dirk Lance) (bass). The band's name may seem a peculiar choice to fans, as an incubus is a type of demon that, in mythological lore, comes in the night and has sex with women while they are sleeping; it seduces them in their dreams The story behind the name is that the band needed to think of a name hours before their first show and, after a few failed choices, Mike looked in a dictionary and chose "Incubus" almost at random. Mike says that the name was chosen because it sounded silly; Brandon holds that it was chosen because they were teenagers and the definition had the word "sex" in it. "We really didn't want to rape women in their sleep. But, we were fifteen and it seemed harmless to us then, and we never changed it," says the band.
Incubus has received both critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing several successful singles. The band earned mainstream recognition with the release of their 1999 album Make Yourself. In 2001, Incubus became even more successful with the single "Drive" and their follow-up album Morning View. Their sixth studio album, Light Grenades, debuted at No. 1 in 2006 and has received Gold certification in the U.S. Incubus released their first greatest hits album Monuments and Melodies in June 2009, accompanied by a tour of the United States, Japan and Canada. The band's most recent album, 8, was released on April 21st, 2017.

Kiss to Send Us Off
Incubus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On November 11th, come alone
Bring your mouth
And selective irreverence, we'll both see stars, just
One more time
Kiss before the sky falls
Out from
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
Kill your doubt
With the coldest of weapons, confidence
And no more words
Just the sound of resplendent, tongues colliding
One more time
Kiss before the sky falls
Out from
This cloud we're hovering on
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
Here I am, there you are
On a wire connecting our hearts
There's a string, and it's tied
To a kite
There's a storm in the sky
Now the clouds become electric
There you are, here I am
Could I?
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
A kiss to send us off
The introduction of this song asks the listener to meet the singer on November 11th with a confident attitude and a disregard for societal norms. They desire to be alone away from the noise of the world, to share a moment where the sky seems within reach. The first verse delves into a call to action, to embrace one's confidence, and willpower to attain our goals. The metaphor of using one's tongue to overcome emotional doubt evokes the power of speech as a means of self-confidence. The chorus brings the song full circle, concluding with another plea for one last kiss before the metaphorical storm passes, and the singer and lover go their separate ways.
This song pits the fear of the unknown and the beauty of the moment against each other, symbolized by the thunderstorm imagery. The storm could be interpreted as a metaphor for anything from external conflict to the fear of love and the future that follows from it. In the moment, however, the storm is represented as a beckoning energy, something to be experienced and responded to with bravery and passion. The chorus juxtaposes the fear of the storm's aftermath with the power of this kiss as a message to the listener to appreciate the finite moments of life and live joyously.
