Jack learned to play the guitar at age 14, but was a professional surfer until an accident at Pipeline in which his front teeth were knocked out and he received more than 150 stitches. While he was recovering in bed, he spent his time writing songs and playing guitar. However, Jack didn't seriously pursue a career in the arts until his college years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jack Johnson also played rhythm guitar for the party band "Soil" in 1999, and graduated with a degree in film.

He has written, recorded, and released the albums Brushfire Fairytales (2001), On And On (2003), In Between Dreams (2005), Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George (2006), Sleep Through the Static (2008) and To The Sea (2010), he has also been on 3 soundtracks "September Sessions" from the film The September Sessions, "Thicker Than Water" from the film Thicker Than Water, "Sprout", "A Broke Down Melody" Ep and "Some Live Songs EP". Several of his songs are also featured in the movie "Out Cold". His latest album - Sleep Through The Static - reached the top 10 of the US charts.

In (2009) A live album and DVD of Jack's (2008) world tour to promote the release of Sleep Through The Static album. The DVD entitled En Concert, was released on October 27, 2009. The DVD was directed by Emmett Malloy.

On June 1, 2010, Johnson released his fifth studio album, To The Sea, on Brushfire Records/Universal Republic, which was recorded using Solar Powered energy at his Mango Tree Studio in Hawaii, and the Plastic Plant in LA . To The Sea was co produced by Robert Carranza, Jack Johnson, and his bandmates Merlo Podlewski, Zach Gill and Adam Topol and features guest appearances from G. Love, and Paula Fuga.

Jack Johnson is currently on a world tour promoting To The Sea while continually encouraging his concert attendees to pay greater respect for our planet. An active promoter of environmental causes like Explore.org and One Percent For The Planet, Johnson's 2010 world tour will continue to collaborate with local non-profit groups around the world, according to his website. He will once again donate 100% of his tour profits to support environmental, art, and music education. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
In separate bowl, mix together egg, milk, vegetable oil and bananas.
Stir flour mixture into banana mixture; batter will be a little lumpy.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat.
Pour or scoop batter onto pan, using about 1/4 cup for each pancake.
Cook until pancakes are golden brown on both sides.

Ingredients:
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 tablespoon of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 egg, beaten like it owes you money
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons of vegetable oil or melted butter
2 medium ripe bananas, mashed

Before my Dad left me we used to listen to Jack all the time. After he left I wanted to leave everything behind so I haven't listened to this song until now. Listening to it for the first time in a while made me cry but it was out of happiness. My sister used to sing this to me when i was 5 or 6. She was in high school and i thought she was just the coolest person in the world. My older sister went down a bad path. She got into hard drugs, alcohol, disappearing for months or weeks at a time and always returning with the sweet promises and apologies. I always believed her. She went into an intensive rehab program for two years and got married in July 2019. I hope she's changed for the better. I haven't seen her for almost two and a half years. She left my mom a long text about the toxicity of our family and blocked her everywhere. I'm almost 16 and i dont think my older sister would even recognize me anymore. She refuses to visit me because it means seeing our mom. I miss you so much. This was our song. One day we'll reunite when im older but the time goes so slowly without her.

I'm sitting here reading all these amazing comments about how much this song has impacted peoples lives in one way or another. I guess I'll chip in. Whenever I hear this song it makes me think of watching the curious George movie on repeat as my grandma sat by me even though she was tired from work. This song reminds me of the long drives to the hospital as she got sicker and sicker. This song reminds me of not being able to keep my tears from falling as I sat there at her funeral. So, Ive never told this story.

I had somebody I loved dearly, close to my heart. He was the goofiest guy Ive ever known, I fell deeply in love with him, he was the classic dork. We were so different, but opposites attract. I really fell hard on him, he was the person I put all my trust into, every single little thing, he was the guy I wanted to be with the most. He introduced me to this song, I thought it was the most beautiful song, it listed everything him and I would’ve wanted to do together, at least what I wanted. I used to listen to this song on repeat every night just to fall asleep, knowing that he loved me just as much as I loved him. We met online, which is perceived as a horrible way to meet, but from personal experience it’s something you shouldn’t look down on, that guy just made my heart melt. His eyes just made me smile and that dorky laugh of his made me fall into just a deeper level of love. Sadly, him and I are not talking anymore, every time I think of this song I’ll tear up and think about how nobody will make my heart skip a beat like he did. I haven’t been in love since and this was a year ago now, we were speaking for a year and a half. Knowing that my heart still beats for him hurts me, I don’t know if he’s moved on or if he’s playing this same exact song for another person, I hope not, this was our song and its still our song to me. That will never change, I’ve never smiled so much before I met him, he’d always include me in his activities and try to make me smile when we called. I miss him with all my heart and think about what I’d say if I ever see him again, I think about how I’d react, How much I’d start to tear up, I’m still a teenager, yes. But I understand the importance of love, my family certainly didn’t support what him and I had and it hurt, his family was accepting. Every time he asked about my parents I’d freak out, I didn’t want my family ruining what we had, yet somehow they always get to everything. I don’t know if he’ll ever see such a thing, but I still think about his dorky laugh and personality to this day, I’ll always be the honey to his bear.

My father plays this to wake me up around 6-7 A.M. on weekends. I only see him every other weekend (I’m a minor, split up parents, lives with mom) and considering current circumstances I can’t see him at all right now. But listening to this makes me happy. When I was little I used to always play Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz music. I had a pretty rough childhood with my dad being very abusive towards my family. When I felt depressed and just tired of everything I would listen to this music. There's just something so peaceful and therapeutic about this kind of music that just pulls you away from everything and helps you to just relax and breathe. Still love his music to this day.
