T'as quinze ans soudain
The lyrics to Jean-Jacques Goldman's song Et l'on n'y peut rien explore the concept of fate and how it controls our lives. Goldman uses metaphorical language to describe fate as an invisible thread that connects us all and weaves through our subconsciousness. This thread has the power to make slaves out of kings and damn saints, telling us that no one is immune to its influence. It creates a knot or hunger in our stomachs that cannot be ignored, and we are left feeling somewhat powerless to resist its pull.
Goldman then goes on to describe how people try to resist fate by building walls and creating their own happiness, but fate can easily break through these defenses and leave everything in shambles. It is described as a terrorist who cannot be stopped, and even those who try to resist its influence find themselves begging for its attention. There is a sense of desperation and inevitability that comes through strongly in the lyrics, as if fate is an all-consuming force that cannot be reckoned with.
In the end, fate is portrayed as an unpredictable and sometimes cruel force that leaves us feeling empty and drained. It decides our fate, while we are left pretending to have control over our lives. The lyrics of Et l'on n'y peut rien are a poignant reflection on the fragility of human life and our inability to control our ultimate destiny.

Comme un fil entre l'autre et l'un
Like a thread between the other and the one
Invisible, il pose ses liens
Invisible, it lays its ties
Dans les méandres des inconscients
In the meanders of the unconscious
Il se promène impunément
It walks around with impunity
Et tout un peu tremble
And everything trembles a little
Et le reste s'éteint
And the rest fades away
Juste dans nos ventres
Just in our bellies
Un nœud, une faim
A knot, a hunger
Il fait roi l'esclave
It makes the slave king
Et peut damner les saints
And can damn the saints
L'honnête ou le sage
The honest or the wise
Et l'on n'y peut rien
And we can do nothing about it
And we resist, we build walls

Happiness, neatly arranged photos
Terroriste, il fend les armures,
Like a terrorist, it breaks through armor
Un instant tout est balayé
In an instant, everything is swept away

Suddenly, you're fifteen
Tout change de base
Everything changes direction
Et l'on n'y peut rien
And we can do nothing about it
It comes when we least expect it
Quand on y croit, il s'enfuit déjà
When we believe, it has already fled
Frère qui un jour y goûta
Brother who once tasted it
Jamais plus tu ne guériras
Never again will you heal
Il nous laisse vide
It leaves us empty
Et plus mort que vivant
And more dead than alive
C'est lui qui décide
It's the one who decides
On ne fait que semblant
We're only pretending
Lui, choisit ses tours
It chooses its moves
Et ses va et ses vient
And its comings and goings
Ainsi fait l'amour
That's how love works
Et l'on n'y peut rien
And we can do nothing about it

Y nada podemos hacer
Como un hilo entre uno y otro,
Invisible, construye sus lazos
En los rincones de los inconscientes
Y se pasea impunemente.
Y todo tiembla un poco,
Y el resto se apaga
Hasta que en nuestros vientres,
Hay un nudo, un hambre.
Hace al rey, esclavo
Y puede condenar a los santos,
El honesto o el sabio
...Y nada podemos hacer.
Y lo resistimos construyendo muros
De alegrías, fotos bien ordenadas.
Terrorista, rompe las armaduras,
Y en un instante todo está deshecho.
Trepas y acechas
Y mendigas palabras
Lees sus poetas
Amas sus cuadros...
Y buscas cruzártela.
Tienes quince años de repente,
Todo cambia de base
...Y nada podemos hacer.
Se invita cuando no lo esperamos
Cuando creemos, ya está enterrado
Mi hermano quien, un día, gustó
Nunca más te curarás.
Nos deja vacíos
Y más muertos que vivos.
Es él quien decide.
Nosotros sólo simulamos.
El elige sus vueltas
Y sus "va" y sus "viene".
Así hace el amor
...Y nada podemos hacer.

@jacquesorde6796
