I close my eyes so I couldn't see
I'm used to all the crap you dish out
I know exactly what it's about
You didn't want to come across the sea
Dragged by your hair, it got worse you got me
Now everything is cool up until when
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
It's not that I don't want you around
But you act as if we're bringing you down
Maybe you don't have the guts to go
Maybe you just don't want me to know
You didn't want to come across the sea
Dragged by your hair, it got worse you got me
Now everything is cool up until when
Accidently screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
Screw up your life again
(You can't blame us for everything)
Screw up your life again
(When lives come down you'll probably leave)
Screw up your life again
(So pack your bags and take your time)
Screw up your life again
(To leave, to leave, to leave)
Screw up your life again
(And someday when you think of me)
Screw up your life again
(Remember how I was happy)
Screw up your life again
(Until the day I learned to see)
Screw up your life again
(Please leave, please leave, please leave)
(Please leave, please leave, please leave)
The song βPlease Leaveβ by Jebediah is a powerful and emotional expression of the frustration that comes with being in a dysfunctional or toxic relationship. The lyrics describe a narrator who has been repeatedly hurt and let down by their partner, but is struggling to let go and move on. They are torn between wanting their partner to stay and hoping that they will finally take responsibility for their actions and leave.
In the opening lines, the singer acknowledges that their partnerβs hurtful words are taking a toll on them, but they try to shut out the negativity by closing their eyes. Theyβve become accustomed to this kind of treatment and have resigned themselves to it. However, they are still deeply affected by it, and their resentment and anger start to show in the chorus. The repeated line βscrew up your life againβ is a blunt, straightforward expression of frustration at their partnerβs repeated failures and inability to change.
The second verse hints at the reason why the couple is together despite their problems. The singer suggests that their partner may be too scared to leave or may not want to acknowledge their mistakes. They are trying to hold on to the relationship, even if itβs toxic, because it feels safer than making a change. The final chorus is a plea for their partner to leave and take responsibility for their actions. The repetition of βplease leaveβ is a powerful reminder that sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves and for others is to let go and move on.
