His comedy routines often include him doing the voice of a supposed audience member commenting on his performance. He is also known for making fun of Hot Pockets, usually likening them to "a Pop-Tart filled with nasty meat." He often begins his routines with, "Don't worry, I've never heard of me either."

Gaffigan first began performing stand up comedy on January 27, 1991 in New York City. In 2000 he had a short-lived series on CBS called Welcome to New York, which co-starred Christine Baranski (Cybill) and Sara Gilbert (Roseanne). The following year, Gaffigan starred in Ellen DeGeneres' short-lived second sitcom, called The Ellen Show. In 2003/2004 he appeared in several episodes of the television show That '70s Show. Gaffigan has also appeared in the movie Super Troopers.

In 2006, Jim Gaffigan appeared on Comedy Central in a special entitled Beyond the Pale. It aired January 29, 2006, and became available for purchase on DVD that same day. "Beyond the Pale" is Gaffigan's first DVD. Jim Gaffigan also appeared on Comedy Central in his own episode of Comedy Central Presents.

In the United States, he has also appeared in Sierra Mist, Rolling Rock, and Saturn television commercials.

Gaffigan has appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien numerous times, often bringing episodes of Pale Force, a comedic short featuring a superhero duo (Gaffigan and O'Brien) and highlighting their mutual paleness.

On Novemeber 28th, 2006 Jim Gaffigan starred as Andy Franklin in the pilot episode of the TBS orginal series, "My Boys".

I love Jim, don't get me wrong....but the reason he'll never be close to the GOAT of comedy is due to his commitment to the safe and clean.

To be a true GOAT, you have to be willing to offend sensitive people who let words offend them. Language is neutral, there's no such thing as vulgar, vile, or foul language. If a person uses "foul" language with tact and wit it's incredible. George Carlin won over Roman Catholic nuns with his comedy that contained "bad words", because they were intelligent enough to see what he was doing.

The world isn't safe and clean, thus I like my comedy to reflect the reality I live in.....Just a thought.

I never watch the ones that use f, b , c words or/and say demeaning things about women. Its filth, and I will never understand why anyone would laugh at demeaning another human being. The fact that some make very good money insulting half the worlds popuaation is a clear indication that sexism(hate toward women by males,) is PC. Well, that is because fast food is funny. Trust me, I managed a Wendy's for nearly a decade. Some of my encounters were legendary. Not just the customers, employees as well. We traveled an hour and a half to see him live, and it was definitely worth the risk! We laughed from the second he came out till the second he walked off stage.
He still makes me laugh hysterically every time I watch him, no matter how many times I've heard the skit.

Domino’s effect was absolute magic. That is what you call a professional execution of a well built joke. I got asthma from it I was laughing so hard.

I think most people hear a joke and just laugh, they’re unable to see the layers of genius. JG’s jokes are masterfully built like a brick house. Each layer is sculpted just right. He doesn’t give away the joke until he’s fleshed it out…all while adding a casual ‘slob’ layer to make it look like it was just thought up on the spot. Absolute genius.

My girlfriend and I have done Gaffigan comedy special marathons and we both end up laughing so hard that we have tears running down our face and getting the hiccups! 😂 We’ve seen these specials before on our own individually... and it doesn’t matter...we will still crack up and have to pause the show!

I've loved your comedy since the first time I saw a special you'd made. I became a fan of you the person after hearing a long form interview on the Tom Barnard podcast.

Everything he projects in his comedy is indeed the man. Polite, without malice, and a quick wit that often comes from outside the box perspective that every talented comedian possesses, Jim in particular.

I so wish The Jim Gaffigan Show was still on showing new episodes. I loved the show so much. It was comedy gold. The way he played his Dad was so funny that it made my stomach hurt laughing so hard. I don't know why the show stopped. Wish they'd bring it back. Thanks, Jim!
