Dog Star Radio

In my mind
Wish I hadn't been born with sight
Then become blind
Dog star radio
Loud and clear
Never tune out because of pain or fear.
The slow burn of this planet's turning
Here we are praying to the dog star
In gods we've trusted
All the meanings of our lives
Yet all our lies.
Are seen through mushroom clouds
Telepathic screams
And all our dreams
All our dreams
Dog star radio
In my mind
Wish I hadn't been born with sight
Then become blind
Dog star radio
Loud and clear
Never tune out because of pain or fear.
On the dog star radio love still heals
On the dog star radio hate still kills
On the dog star radio no one for a minute believes in man-made reality

Wish I hadn't been born with sight
Then become blind
Dog star radio
Loud and clear
Never tune out because of pain or fear.

The lyrics of Joydrop's song "Dog Star Radio" speak of the power of radio in the context of a world plagued by war, destruction, and deceit. The song refers to the "dog star" which is another name for Sirius, the brightest star of the night sky, and the concept of a radio station broadcasting hope and truth from this star to people on Earth. The lyrics suggest that the radio is a refuge for those who are overwhelmed by the pain and fear of reality. The repetition of the line "wish I hadn't been born with sight, then become blind" implies that being blind to the harsh realities of life could be a blessing.
The song takes a bleak turn in the second verse, as the lyrics describe the destruction caused by human beings. The line "all our lies are seen through mushroom clouds" alludes to the damage inflicted by nuclear bombs, while the phrase "telepathic screams" could refer to the collective pain felt by humanity. Despite this, the refrain remains optimistic, suggesting that the dog star radio is a place where love still heals and hatred still kills, and a place where people can escape the man-made reality that they have created.
