Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

But it's sunrise and I'm still in your bed
Goodnight usually means goodbye
Me, replaying memories in my head
Look at you, look at you
Look what you made me do
How do you, how do you think know my every move
Who are you? Who are you? You look so familiar
We got way too much in common
If I'm being honest with you
We got way too much in common
Since I'm being honest with you
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
We used to talk 'til midnight
All those days that you stayed at my house
We were just passing the time
When we were young and we ain't had no vows
Now, now, now maybe later on, I'll text you and maybe you'll reply
We both know we had no patience together day and night
Getting high on our supply, yeah, we ain't satisfied
I could love you all occasions
We got way too much in common
If I'm being honest with you
We got way too much in common
Since I'm being honest with you
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be mystical too
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
Messed up too, messed up too
Just like you, just like you
Messed up too, messed up too
Just like you, just like you
We got way too much in common
If I'm being honest with you
We got way too much in common
Since I'm being honest with you
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
Kaskadeβs "In Common" is an emotional and reflective song about a past relationship that the singer has trouble letting go of. The opening line confesses that the singer promised to leave their partner by morning but ended up staying, implying that they can't seem to break away from their former flame. The lyrics look back on their past memories, commenting on the time they spent together and the nagging feeling that something wasn't right. The chorus repeats the idea that they have too much in common, indicating that perhaps their relationship wasn't healthy for either of them. The song ends on a bittersweet note, as they admit that their past relationship was a mess, but deep down, they still long for it.
