Don't Think Twice It's All Right
Ke$ha Lyrics

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm traveling on
Don't think twice, it's all right.
It ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talking anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right.
It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinking and a-wond'rin' walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
Don't think twice, it's all right.
So long honey, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind

You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right.

Overall Meaning

In "Don't Think Twice It's All Right," Ke$ha covers Bob Dylan's classic breakup song with a clear and compelling voice. The lyrics express the angst and uncertainty that come with the end of a relationship. Dylan seems to be telling his lover that he's leaving her and moving on, and while he's sorry for any pain he might be causing, he knows it's for the best. The repetition of the phrase "Don't think twice, it's all right" implies a certain degree of resignation and acceptance on his part. Despite the emotional turmoil that underlies the song, there is a sense of hope and determination in the closing lines, where Dylan bids his ex farewell and sets out on a new path, ready to face whatever comes his way.

At first listen, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" might sound like a simple folk song, with little more than Dylan's guitar and harmonica accompaniment to back up his vocals. However, the track is notable for its intricate chord progression, which shifts smoothly from one key to another, adding subtle depth and complexity to the melody. The song has been covered numerous times since its original release in 1963, by artists as diverse as Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Its enduring popularity has made it a staple of folk music, and a classic example of Dylan's singular songwriting style.

I don't understand why people would dislike this!!! This is truly beautiful! You can hear that she put a lot of emotion into this! <3

Geoff Wilde

That is why many Dylan fans dont like it. Because it's not exactly a very emotional song.

GeoffWilde For me it is. I got emotional hearing this song... <3

GeoffWilde What's that supposed to mean? Of course it's an emotional song. I'm not particularly moved by this cover but the lyrics are without a question emotional.

lpsforever4 Okay... Thanks for telling me... I was only saying that it's not meant to make you feel the way that this cover does. She's tried to turn the song and its context into somethingf that it is not.

She did this in one take by herself on her MacBook. Makes it even more incredible. When Kesha was shopping around her demo, she had two versions of herself. One is the version we hear on the radio, the other was more like this track. The studios picked the version we ended up with. Luckily we still get glimmers of beauty like this from her though.

This is absolutely incredible. I have a new respect for Kesha.

Kesha's really talented, she just usually doesn't do this type of sound. Her original song "Goodbye" is great and more of a similar vibe. Really shows off her vocal and song writing abilities. She knows exactly what she is doing.

Nadine Bamberger

It's a breathtaking rendition of this beautiful song. I have great personal respect for this strong woman and now I found new respect for her work as well.
