Koji Kondo is perhaps the most recognizable name from the bunch, simply because he is the man responsible for such musical accomplishments as the Super Mario, Zelda and Star Fox soundtracks many Nintendo fans have grown up with. It’s very realistic when the girl went to the principal to complain about one of the students harassing her. They never do anything. They dismiss it as “bothering” because he’s a student with ‘good reputation.’ I’ve seen it happen in my uni, and it’s disgusting.

This movie is needed. If you find the reactions from the students (specifically the female lead) in this movie to be problematic, you're not wrong, but you need to weigh them against the problematic situation the teens find themselves in that cause them to react in the first place. This movie doesn't advocate for bad behavior and even uses multiple characters like the best friend, boyfriend and mother to call it out. But it does tell young women (and men), that their observations are real, their feeling and frustrations are valid, and that they're not alone. It tells them it's okay to use your voice, you should never have to stay silent, and it demonstrates the community you can find/create by breaking that silence.

There are hardly any in the movie, just him being a bit annoying with a few girls. Using rape as a plot device without us seeing good evidence. is just scummy and quite disgusting and a way to somehow prop up the main cast who are just vindictive towards each other. Like the point of this movie is to sell us the idea of why feminism is good and why we need it. But it doesn’t do a good job at it, just mainly it will turn you into a bully and if your fellow women don’t comply, then treat them like trash. She apologized but it was just so last-minute and didn’t feel genuine. Lastly, modern feminism isn’t about equality, it’s just about a series of propaganda that has been disproven multiple times like the wage gap, the 1 and 5 rape statistic, and many others. There is a reason many women don’t identify with the term because there is a massive amount of toxicity around it that no one wants to associate with.

@Amala John well there are numerous things that are wrong with this movie from the storytelling to the way they try to convey the message. Such as with the main character bullying her friend because she just won’t come to terms with her feminist ideals, how the students just bully the teacher who is there working for minimum wage and taking care of a bunch of teenagers who thing everything that comes out of their mouth are these pearls of wisdom. How they treat the male characters and force them to be assholes. Or how they wrote in Mitchell committing a rape in the last fifteen minutes of the film, which they are trying to use to justify the girls’ shitty behaviours. But in all honesty it does reflect a true aspect of feminism; turning people into bitter antagonizers who are catty, bully people who don’t conform or partake in their trash fire of a movement, and ostracize women who don’t care for contemporary feminism.

I was once told to “hold it” when asking for the bathroom at my conservative catholic school because we were taught never to publicly talk about a “women’s issues”... well I started my period mid class and needed the bathroom cause I didn’t want to have wash blood out of my shorts and dress later. What I didn’t like about this movie was just the protagonist was just a bully to her friend in general. Like sure was a complete bitch to her because she didn’t conform to her feminist principles and ideals. Plus, making the antagonist white make a rapist at the end of the movie was so forced and we saw no evidence of it. I think they just used it to help justify the girls’ behaviour of being bitter to each other. Honesty the teenage white girl is the perfect representation of feminism, bitter, a bully, and just puritanical. Of course her posse isn’t any better, they are just as bad as her. Her best friend was the only good person, she just wanted to live her life and not concern herself with an ideology that turned her friend into a bully and manipulator. The movie should have been about her, at least she’s nice and has empathy; two traits that seem to lacking in the protagonist.

While I agree that this movie could have been executed better, I think she was a feminist all along she just didnt do anything but finding her mom’s old stuff inspired her. after watching a few movie reviews i do understand why this wasn’t executed as well as it could have, seeing as they chose the typical cishet white protagonist. however, i did really, really enjoy the message and the content in the movie, and i’m starting to think that maybe the protagonists play was to show their growth in understanding other races and identities. kind of a play on “you don’t need to be a minority to stand up for them” but idk she was still kinda meh even though i appreciate the character development

It definitely had some flaws, but I don’t think she was ever supposed to me an expert on feminism, I just think her finding all her moms old stuff was what inspired her to actually start caring about the issues. And the scene with Lucy was to show character growth, how in the beginning of the movie she didn’t really understand why the shit the guys were doing was wrong and how she grew to actually understand it and care about it

I enjoyed the movie, but I disliked the negative portrayal of Gatsby. Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books and I LOVED reading it in high school and enjoyed its message of how riches and fame can't give you everything or your life true meaning. At least, that's how I saw it. I get what she was saying about how we should read more diverse books and explore other stories with more meaning, sure. As a woman, I wholeheartedly agree we should read more books by POC and other women. Especially since a lot of them are proving relevant. But I hated how they really crapped on my fave book and had the antagonist support it to rub the negative spotlight in even more.

I've seen so many hate on this movie and as a someone who hates majority of modern feminist movies, because they portray us feminists as just toxic masculine women who hates men and are more damaging than actually helping, I was afraid this movie would be the same. But this movie doesn't go that way, this movie knows what's character development. This movie doesn't actually portray all women as oppressed and all men as the oppressors. You can see both women that are part of the problem and men that are contributing to the cause. Yes, there were some questionable moments, yes, there were some parts that could have been implemented better, especially when it comes to issues unique for women of colour and trans women, but for the majority of time, this movie is actually relatable! Unlike other modern feminist movies, I could find real life example of basically everything in that movie that either happened to me or one of my close friends. I've come to hate watch and am coming out with hope there would be more movies like this in the future.

When we (the oppressed people) stand up to fight for things (whether is feminism, BLM, lgbtq+ rights movement) we always risk so much, our jobs, our educations, our homes, our freedom, our lives... but we either take those risks or we stay oppressed and than there are all these people out there who call themselves allies, but what are they risking? Specially when the risks for them are inherently smaller, like if it was a female teacher fully standing up with the students vs this guy doing the same, she would have a much bigger chance of being fired than he would, but he won'ttake that risk, because in the end of the day, it doesn't affect him. Just like a white person standing up against a racist cop has a much smaller chance of getting beat up or arrested than a black person, but when do ever see that happen?
