Heutzutage denke ich an die Vergangenheit meines Vaterlandes und an all die Erungenschaften, die unsere Nation erreichte, als es die Nation wurde, die wir heute kennen. Ebenso wie es die Deutschen Nationen, wie ihre Namen auch immer lauteten im Laufe der Geschichte, vorher erreichten.

Ich schaue auf den Abgrund der dunklesten Jahre, als unsere Vorfahren den Weltenbrand entfacht haben und ich neige mein Haupt in Demut und mit dem Anreiz aus ihren Fehlern zu lernen, auf dass so etwas niemals wieder von deutschem Boden ausgehe. Deutschland einig Vaterland möge den Völkern der Welt die Hand im Frieden reichen. Wir sollten es in unserer deutschen DNA verankert haben, wie schnell vormals gute Dinge in die schlimmsten umschlagen können.

Mein Nationalstolz und Patriotismus heißt heutzutage Verfassungspatriotismus. Unsere Nation hat es geschafft, auf ihrem Boden über siebzig Jahre Frieden zu wahren. WIr haben es unblutig und selbstbestimmt geschafft, unsere Einheit wiederzuerlangen. Wir haben uns vom Feind fast aller Völker zu einem angesehenen Freund und Verbündeten der freien Welt zu wandeln. Wir haben uns den Respekt und die Freundschaft früherer Feinde und sogar unseres sogenannten "Erbfeindes" zu verdienen und diese Gefühle beruhen auf Gegenseitigkeit.

Das sind Dinge, auf die wir Deutschen heutzutage stolz sein dürfen.

Unsere Vorfahren mahnen uns, diesen guten Weg weiter zu gehen. Wir ehren sie, indem wir alles, das vor uns war, achten.

Ich schwöre, der Bundesrepublik Deutschlands treu zu dienen, und das Recht und die Freiheit tapfer zu verteidigen. (So wahr mir Gott helfe.)

So lautet mein Diensteid und so soll es immerdar sein.

My grandfather was born in Riga as a Baltic German, but had to leave Latvia during the second world war, because of the Hitler-Stalin-Pact. My family arrived in Latvia in the 15th century (My first ancestor there was Johann von Mengden, who was the first "Landmeister" of Teutonic order, my great grandmother was born a "von Mengden"). This song reminds me of all my ancestors who lived for almost 500 years in Livonia, Estonia and Courland. This song was actually written by another Baltic German. I think with "We became strangers" he means the long time the Baltic German were separated from the other Germans in the "Reich".

He was born in Memel, todays Klaipėda, in a rich and even noble family with lots of land, but when the Russians were coming he and his parents fled to Schleswig-Holstein. Now nothing is left because the Commies probably grabbed all of it, and due to the reason they fled and left ‘out of free will’ my family has no right to ‘claim back the land’. Bit sad but from how it now looks there I do not feel the urge to do anything about it.😂

Most Germans nowadays know nothing about the history of their ancestors who had lived in the Baltics (and especially in Estonia) for centuries. I was in Tallinn /Reval and didn't get surprised when I saw so many German inscriptions on buildings and in churches.

I don't wanna be pesimist, just like I said, I recently got a job in times of unemployement, I can eat and have my things, but this country Is getting worse. The inflation Is high as the corrupcy, that's the main problem of this country who once was glorious. Life in Argentina Is surviving, you learn that since you born, and we're used to crisis so we "manage" to live.

As a Pole, it's a very complex feeling listening to this song. I have obvious animosity to the idea presented in the lyrics, but at the same time I recognize and appreciate the melancholy in the tone of music. For the struggle, for the passion and for the fallen. I guess that is common between the two peoples
