Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kostas Makedonas's song Margaritaria talk about a man who is deeply in love with a woman, so much so that he would buy her the most beautiful pearl necklaces, even if she is unfaithful and deceitful. The song starts with the man promising to buy her the most beautiful pearls that are hidden in the depths of the sea, for her to wear around her white neck. He loves her so much that her deceitful ways do not bother him, and he remains fixated on her beauty.

In the second verse, the man acknowledges that this woman has become a thief who has stolen his heart. But, even so, he promises to buy her the most beautiful pearls, which are hidden in the depths of the sea. In the third verse, the man urges the woman, who is educated and accomplished, to understand that a self-made man is the one who wins in life. No matter how smart or successful a woman is, a man that can stand on his own two feet, without relying on others, is the one who is truly successful. These verses reflect the man's unconditional love for the woman, despite her unfaithful and deceitful nature.
