Lolita
Lana Del Rey Lyrics

Would you be mine, would you be my baby tonight?
Could be kissing my fruit punch lips in the bright sunshine
'Cause I like you quite a lot, everything you got, don't you know?
It's you that I adore, though I make the boys fall like dominoes

Kiss me in the D-A-R-K dark tonight
D-a-r-k do it my way
Kiss me in the P-A-R-K park tonight
P-a-r-k let them all say
Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
I know what the boys want, I'm not gonna play
Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
Whistle all you want but I'm not gonna say

No more skipping rope, skipping heart beats with the boys downtown
Just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down

I could be yours, I could be your baby tonight
Topple you down from your sky forty stories high
Shining like a God, can't believe I caught you and so
Look at what I bought, not a second thought, oh, Romeo

Kiss me in the D-A-R-K dark tonight
D-a-r-k do it my way
Kiss me in the P-A-R-K park tonight
P-a-r-k let them all say

Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
I know what the boys want, I'm not gonna play
Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
Whistle all you want but I'm not gonna say

No more skipping rope, skipping heart beats with the boys downtown
Just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down

I want my cake and I want to eat it too
I want to have fun and be in love with you
I know that I'm a mess with my long hair
And my suntan, short dress, bare feet
I don't care what they say about me, what they say about me
Because I know that it's L-O-V-E
You make me happy, you make me happy
And I never listen to anyone

Let them all say

Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
I know what the boys want, I'm not gonna play
Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
Whistle all you want but I'm not gonna say

No more skipping rope, skipping heart beats with the boys downtown
Just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down

The lyrics are sweet and romantic but the music is like some serial killer is dancing in the background and about to show us their secrets.

Edit: To the people in the replies saying I need to re-evaluate my whole life for calling the lyrics sweet and romantic:

1. I discovered lolita only AFTER listening to this song, so, I didn't know it was about a pedo. I was studying while listening to LDR songs in a queue. The feel of this song felt particularly sinister so I made this comment and then moved on.

2. Despite not knowing at that time, I still felt that the girl singing is falling for a bad guy (hence, the "serial killer" comment)

3. Please, do not jump to conclusions about me, if possible. Of course, it's the internet and everyone has their freedom of speech, so, I have no right to complain. I just wanted to clarify.

Have a nice day and stay safe.

I keep hearing like this:

"Would you be mine, would you be my baby tonight?" He ask.
"(So you) could be kissing my fruit punch lips in the bright sunshine" She said.
"'Cause I like you quite a lot, everything you got, don't you know?" He tried.
"(Yes I know but) it's you that I adore, though I make the boys fall like dominoes". She said.

"Kiss me in the dark tonight, do it my way!" He demanded.
"(I prefer you) kiss me in the park tonight, let them all say." she said.

"Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
I know what the boys want, I'm not gonna play
Hey Lolita, hey
Hey Lolita, hey
Whistle all you want but I'm not gonna say." He sang to her.

"No more skipping rope, skipping heart beats with the boys downtown." He remind her.
"Just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down." He adds gleefully.

"I could be yours, I could be your baby tonight." She agreed.
"Topple you down from your sky forty stories high." She has no idea smh.
"(I'd be) shining like a God, can't believe I caught you and so.." He said.
"Look at what I bought, not a second thought!" he said.
"oh, Romeo" she sigh lost her mind..

why does every comment disparage the "theme" of this song based on what they have heard from some book they heard about and never read.

all these comments treat Lolita as the object to be used and abused.

for me, this song takes that back and Lolita becomes the subject; all her abusers and objectifiers become the object.

so for me thisis one of the best songs i've ever heard. helps that it's also heavy as fuck

turn around

I really liked this song, but I didn’t know it had a creepy undertone. And now I understand why she spelled out the words park and dark, everything in this song is from a child’s perspective.

i just want to know how you are verified

@soft bunny yeah that’s fair

I think the dark and part spelled out reminds me of the song hello operator give me number 9
I use to sing as a kid

@Eugeo it's true man, hollywood is the most immoral place you''ll ever see - nobody is escaped

well the nickname "lolita" means a very seductive young girl which probably explains why it's from a child's perspective :)

Since everyone thinks this is romanticizing it, she’s singing from Dolores’s perspective before she realized that what was happening between her and her dad wasn’t natural.

@Ugh Ok What do you mean it's the only one? Lolita is also a song that directly references the book in the literal title.

She was never actually into him. This is how the man believed Dolores was thinking. The book and the films are told from a completely distorted lens of the pedophile. It's interesting really, how much stuff that happened in the movies isn't real.

@Lena Ray lmao yea i watched the movie right after i posted that reply aha
