WILD SOUL
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Car alarms and cracked concrete
I need honeysuckle breeze
And Lord, release my wild soul
Nothing here belongs to us
Someday we'll all be dust
And even if it's dangerous
Well, I can hear the bluebirds sing
Soon it will be spring
And I want for the sun to come
And Lord, release my wild soul
I can't sit still too long
Nowhere, baby is where I'm from
And if you want to know where I'm from
And Lord, release my wild soul
Lord, release my wild soul
Oh Lord, release my wild soul
Lord, release my wild soul
In Langhorne Slim's Wild Soul, the singer is walking down the streets surrounded by the noise of car alarms and cracked concrete, yearning for a connection with nature. He seeks the honeysuckle breeze, a sweet and fragrant scent that signals spring and rejuvenation. He asks the Lord for release, seeking liberation from the monotony and confinement of city life. Despite acknowledging that "nothing here belongs to us," and "someday we'll all be dust," he still wants to experience the beauty of the world around him.
The song's theme centers around the tension between man and nature and the need for belonging and freedom. The singer feels disconnected from his environment and craves a return to his roots. By invoking the image of bluebirds singing and the arrival of spring, he evokes hope and renewal. The chorus, "Lord, release my wild soul," serves as a prayer for freedom and a plea for a return to his natural state.
Wild Soul has resonated with audiences, with its catchy melody and its poignant lyrics. The song's appeal lies in its universal theme of human connection with nature and the longing to break free from societal norms. It speaks to people who feel trapped in a world where they feel they don't belong, and encourages them to embrace their wild side.
