On January 26, 1986, French humorist Coluche, who had set up Les Restos du Cœur a few months earlier, invited a number of artists and public figures to appear on television as a promotional move. The band, whose line-up was never the same, was dubbed "Les Enfoirés" in reference to one of Coluche's catchwords. After Coluche died in a motorbike accident (June 19, 1986) his widow, Véronique Colucci, called on those who had participated to continue his actions, and the band was revived for a further television show. The concept has since evolved into an annual concert, bringing together up to forty artists and celebrities from various backgrounds. The funds raised by the concerts and derived records under the name "Enfoirés" are donated to Les Restos du Cœur.
One of the key features of Les Enfoirés is "La Chanson des Enfoirés", a song which became a sort of hymn to the charity, written by Jean-Jacques Goldman, a long-time supporter of the organisation.

Sur mon pupitre et les arbres
Sur le sable sur la neige
J'écris ton nom
Sur toutes les pages lues
Sur toutes les pages blanches
Pierre sang papier ou cendre
Sur les images dorées
Sur les armes des guerriers
Sur la couronne des rois
J'écris ton nom
Sur la jungle et le désert
Sur les nids sur les genêts
Sur l'écho de mon enfance
J'écris ton nom
Sur les merveilles des nuits
Sur le pain blanc des journées
Sur les saisons fiancées
J'écris ton nom
Sur tous mes chiffons d'azur
Sur l'étang soleil moisi
Sur le lac lune vivante
J'écris ton nom
Sur les champs sur l'horizon
Sur les ailes des oiseaux
Et sur le moulin des ombres
J'écris ton nom
Sur chaque bouffée d'aurore
Sur la mer sur les bateaux
Sur la montagne démente
J'écris ton nom
Sur la mousse des nuages
Sur les sueurs de l'orage
Sur la pluie épaisse et fade
J'écris ton nom
Sur la lampe qui s'allume
Sur la lampe qui s'éteint
Sur mes maisons réunies
J'écris ton nom
Sur toute chair accordée
Sur le front de mes amis
Sur chaque main qui se tend
J'écris ton nom
Sur mes refuges détruits
Sur mes phares écroulés
Sur les murs de mon ennui
J'écris ton nom
Sur l'absence sans désir
Sur la solitude nue
Sur les marches de la mort
J'écris ton nom
Sur la santé revenue
Sur le risque disparu
Sur l'espoir sans souvenir
J'écris ton nom
Et par le pouvoir d'un mot
Je recommence ma vie
Je suis né pour te connaître
Pour te nommer

The lyrics of "Liberté" by Les Enfoirés speak of a powerful and profound connection to the theme of freedom. The singer begins by expressing their reverence for freedom by writing its name on various surfaces - from school notebooks to nature - signifying its universal importance and omnipresence in their life. The act of writing "Liberté" on different elements such as paper, sand, and snow symbolizes the enduring presence of freedom in all aspects of existence.
The lyrics further delve into the association of freedom with different images, such as the golden images, warriors' weapons, and kings' crowns. These associations highlight the intertwined nature of freedom with power, history, and authority. The singer continues to emphasize the pervasive nature of freedom by inscribing its name on elements of nature like jungles, deserts, and childhood memories, underscoring its influence on personal experiences and the world at large.
As the verses progress, the singer expands their reflections on freedom to encompass all facets of life, from the beauty of nights and days to the cycle of seasons. The juxtaposition of different scenes where freedom is inscribed, like azure rags, mossy sunlit ponds, and shadowy windmills, constructs a poetic tapestry that celebrates the various forms in which freedom manifests. The repetitive exclamation of "Liberté" at the end of each stanza serves as a resounding affirmation of the enduring significance and transformative power of freedom in the singer's life.
In the concluding verses, the singer acknowledges the redemptive quality of freedom, suggesting that through the mere utterance of its name, they find renewal and purpose in life. The affirmation of being born to know and name freedom encapsulates a deep-seated belief in the intrinsic connection between personal identity and the pursuit of liberty. The repetition of "Liberté" in an escalating crescendo reflects a culmination of emotion, conviction, and gratitude towards the liberating force that defines their existence. Ultimately, the song culminates in a declaration of liberation, with the chorus resounding passionately as a testament to the indomitable spirit of freedom.
