El Desierto
Lhasa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He venido yo corriendo, olvidandome de ti
Dame un beso pajarillo, note asustes colibri
He venido encendida al desierto pa quemar
In Lhasa's song Desierto, the singer expresses her struggle of letting go of a love as she seeks refuge in the desert. In the first verse, she states that she came to the desert to laugh at the notion of love. She finds the desert to be a more caring place compared to the pain she had to suffer in her relationship. In the second verse, the singer announces that she came to this barren center to shout out loud that her lover never returned the love that she gave. Despite her best efforts, she could not keep the fire of their love burning. In the third verse, the singer speaks to herself saying that she ran out of her relationship and into the desert, telling a bird to give her a kiss and to not be frightened. Lastly, she says that she came to the deserted land to set her soul on fire because the soul burns when love is no more.
The song is about a woman seeking solace in the uninhabited land after a relationship that has left her heartbroken. The desert, in this case, serves as a metaphor for how the singer's love life has become barren, where nothing grows, and everything is dry. The use of the bird symbolizes freedom while the heat of the desert represents the fire of passion that burns inside her.
