The group had three hits: the first and biggest was the nostalgic tune "Those Oldies but Goodies (Remind Me of You)", a #9 Pop and #28 R&B hit in 1961. The follow-up, "Hully Gully Again", hit #54, and subsequent release "Memories of those Oldies but Goodies" Bubbled Under at #101. They also released a full-length album on Del-Fi Records.
The group's live act sometimes included wearing togas on stage. They broke up in 1962, at least partly due to an argument between lead singer Carl Barnett and member David Johnson (who performed the spoken-word portion of "Those Oldies but Goodies") as to which of them was Little Caesar.

My brother Nick Curinga and his friend Paul Politti were high school students when they wrote this song in 1961. They are both still alive. I was only 6 years old. I remember my brother and LIttle Cesar and the Romans getting ready for Bandstand. The song was running neck and neck on KHJ and KRLA with a song called Im Sorry. Great memories.

One of the Greatest Songs of the Early Rock--Do--Wop Music Revolution. Like most of the songs of the 1950s and 60s, they were made for Dancing. It has to be one of the Top Hits to SLOW DANCE to, when you hear this song start out you have to get off your chair or bench and start Dancing. The words also tell a story.

The Doo Wop era was caused by many different parts of our culture maturing to inspire writers and singers of this Early Rock to be born. There were many talented singers already singing in Church Quires and in certain parts of the country Rhythm and Blues artists were already singing. Then the first successful Doo Wop groups influence took off with hundreds of small groups made up of local talent got together and started writing words .Small Rock bands were formed for back up but the Main talent was the High Quality of singers with the ability to write good Doo Wop type songs. Then the evolution took off through the 50s and the Decade of the 60s with Motown and the Music and Songs that came out of the Counter Culture, Hippie movement and of course the many Bands and Singers like the Beatles from England.

I almost got chills down my spine, they still had it in 1995. What a bang-up performance. I'm about to tear up now, and I don't know. I was born in 1990, aside from the movie "Christine", I don't know why doo-wop still pulls on my heartstrings. It's a little spooky, but I'm glad this music still exists.

Thank you for this awesome video of this beautiful song. This song was popular in the early 60's. How strange, little did the artists know how much more great this song would sound as so many more years passed by. Imagine this song in the early 60's. It sounds like they were thinking about those great days and songs of the 1950's. But so many of us today can remember this song as a oldie but goodie, and songs done ten years after this one as a oldie but goodie. Moreover this song in particular was one of the greatest Oldies but Goodies songs I've ever heard, but it wasn't treated like it. It still remains a very obscure song.

That's what makes it timeless. In the early 60s when this was made they were talking about the songs by people like Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, and going back a little further, Rudy Valee, and now it's an oldie itself, letting it be just as important in 2012 as it was 50 years ago.

The other day this was playing on the Sirius XM 50's station. Seeing that the song was released in 1961, the title makes sense because you had the 40's and 50's. Hearing the song on a 50's stations seemed a bit strange, I was trying to figure what would have been considered "Oldies" in the 1950's.

Today, most of what is considered to be oldies music covers the 1950s - 70s. Due to ever-changing demographics, some radio stations that specialize in oldies are now also considering songs from the 1980s and even the 1990s to belong to this category as well (although they may refer to them by other names, e.g., "classic hits").

The ☆Golden Oldies☆ on the other hand are those hits from the 50s - 60s, and have remained a permanent fixture in pop music history. In 1957, Art Laboe first coined the phrase, "oldies but goodies," in response to many of his listeners wanting to listen to songs from earlier in that decade. Because of that, a song was layer released in 1961 called "Those Oldies But Goodies" by Little Caesar and the Romans but written by Nick Curinga and Paul Politi.

Unfortunately the late 60s burst forth with various hard rock 👎styles that provided a mouthpiece for the political and social unrest of the day; they included many rock bands that ruled the airwaves. The good news is, as rock music got harder with each passing year, artists such as Bobby Vinton (my fav) Bobby Rydell, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis (2nd fav), the 4 Seasons, Dionne Warwick, and Roy Orbison, whose styles "hearkened" to earlier eras, produced a steady stream of chart-topping hits throughout most of the decade.
Wasn't that amazing? If it wasn't for them "golden oldies" wouldn't have never existed.
Seriously, as an Art Laboe listener, ever since 1990 I've always been stuck in the 50s and 60s. Help bring back those days!
