Heebie
Little Richard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say Mama can I go out tonight?
Say Mama would it be all right?
They got a record party down the street
Say Mama cant you hear that beat

Whoaaaaaa

Say Mama don't you look that way
Cause I know what you going to say
Well a Mama don't get mad
Your going to say go ask your Dad

Whoaaaaaa

Say Mama don't you look that way
Cause I know what you going to say

Well a Mama don't get mad
Your going to say go ask your Dad

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Little Richard's song Heebie Jeebies depict a young person trying to convince their mother to let them go out to a record party. The singer of the song is eager to go and has already heard the beat from down the street. However, they anticipate that their mother will not be pleased with the request and will likely tell them to ask their father. The repeated "Whoaaaaaa" emphasizes the singer's excitement and anticipation of the party, making their disappointment at their mother's potential refusal all the more pronounced.

Despite the straightforward lyrics, Heebie Jeebies is layered with subtext. It can be interpreted as a commentary on the generation gap, with the singer yearning to connect with the youth culture of the time while their parents are out of touch. Additionally, the mention of a "record party" highlights the emergence of rock and roll and its role in youth culture. Overall, the lyrics to Heebie Jeebies are a relatable depiction of the push and pull between parents and rebellious youth.

@Ronald James no harm done, and I totally agree with you on the 3 you mentioned, even though I tend to put Elvis in that category too because of the revolution he initiated

Ronald James

@Gabriel paino Hi there.
All I can think of is that I must have been drunk when I posted this.
It looks like something I would post on an Elvis video.
For me there is always the trinity of Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis when it comes to Rock 'n' Roll.
I will remove my previous post, as it is stupid !
Have a good day, Gabriel !

Gabriel paino

@Ronald James so who’s the king of Rock and Roll for you ? Just asking
