T… Read Full Bio ↴The group was born in 1990 when Andrés Calamaro arrived in Spain.
There he teamed up with Argentinean Ariel Rot, who had already played with him in Argentina, and the Spaniard Julian Infante. Rot and Infante had been composers of the youthful group Tequila. The three of them, along with Germán Vilella, - the other Spaniard in the band, - began their tests and small concerts in Madrid.
At first they were going to call the band 'Los Locos', but they soon found out that there was already an Asturian group with that name. The definitive name is due to Calamaro's amusement from the Spanish expression 'to be in Rodriguez' (when the head of a household must stay in the city for work reasons, while his wife and children enjoy themselves at the beach), because he himself was 'in Rodriguez', since he had left his fiancée in Argentina.
After composing their first songs they released their first album in 1991: 'Buena Suerte', which had great acceptance in Argentina, mainly because of Fabiana Cantilo's cover of the song 'Mi Enfermedad'. In Spain, nevertheless, it did not succeed, mainly because the recording company that published it (Passion) went bankrupt soon after the release. In 1992 they released a live album called 'Disco Pirata', with recordings from their Madrid, Barcelona and Caracas shows. In 1993 they again released a studio record, 'Sin Documentos'. In 1995 they released their last studio album 'Palabras Más, Palabras Menos', with famous songs like 'Mucho Mejor' or 'Milonga Del Marinero Y El Capitán'.
After a final tour, the group decided to separate after releasing a greatest hits album entitled 'Hasta Luego'.
Mr. Jones
Los Rodríguez Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
vio a su madre recién muerta...
y la sangre del chaleco se limpió
Guardó a su madre en el ropero,
le puso más leña al fuego...
y el invierno muy crudo se avecinó
mamá está muerta en el ropero...
por supuesto si yo la asesiné...;
bom, bom, bom
si somos una familia muy normal...
The lyrics of Los Rodríguez's "Mr. Jones" tell a dark and disturbing story of a family that seems normal but is actually twisted and murderous. The song opens with Mr. Jones finding his recently-deceased mother and cleaning the blood from his shirt. He then puts her in the closet and adds more wood to the fire as a harsh winter approaches. He calls his wife and confesses to killing his mother, but blames her for not setting the table correctly and causing him to explode in anger. He then reveals that his wife has also been killing animals and eating them, while their children run around playing. The police eventually arrive and arrest the whole family.
The lyrics of the song are very graphic and disturbing, depicting violence, murder, and cannibalism. However, there is also an element of dark humor in the absurdity of the situation and the chorus repeating the phrase "if we are a very normal family". This suggests a commentary on the facade of normalcy that can hide darker realities in dysfunctional families. The song has been interpreted as a critique of domestic violence, psychological abuse, and social conformity.
