The lyrics to Los Tigres Del Norte's song "La Camioneta Gris" tell the story of Pedro and his girlfriend, who embark on a journey from California to Acapulco to enjoy their honeymoon and to buy drugs with the money they carry. They drive a grey truck with Californian license plates that Pedro has put a lot of work into, adding racing tires, chrome rims, and a powerful engine. Feeling invincible, Pedro claims that no traffic police can ever catch him.
However, their plans soon take a dark turn when they notice that they are being followed. As they enter the state of Sonora, they are surrounded by ten federal police cars. In a desperate attempt to escape, Inés - Pedro's girlfriend - takes out her machine gun and shoots at the police. She urges Pedro to drive the truck above the police cars, and as they are chased, helicopters alert them that they are surrounded. Unfortunately, they end up dying under a train that crosses their path.
The song is a cautionary tale about the dangers of drug trafficking and the lengths some are willing to go to gain power and money. It highlights the harsh reality of the drug trade and its negative consequences. It also explores themes of love, loyalty, and betrayal, as the couple surrenders to the temptation of drug money and Pedro refuses to let the police catch them.
