Motley Crue
Mötley Crüe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You and me

We're gonna escape tonight

On the run

Under the moonlight
Don't think about nothin'

Don't think about nothin'

Tragedy

Runnin' the red light

Hear the screams

Another one dies tonight

Don't think about nothin'

Don't think about nothin'

(Pre Chorus)

Do you know how it feels

To be wanted

Do you know how it feels

To be wanted

Do you know how it feels

To be wanted

To be under the gun

On the run, having fun

When you're young

You're so young

When you're young

(Chorus)

Public enemy #1

Oh yeah

I'm public enemy #1

Oh yeah

I'm public enemy #1

oh yeah.......

Climbing high

Fast as the speed of sound

Loser's dreams

Crashing to the ground

Don't think about nothin'

Don't think about nothin'

You and me

Under the gun tonight

On the run

We're lost in the lime light

Don't think about nothin'

Because we're gonna get crazy

(Pre-Chorus)

(Chorus)(Pre-Chorus)(Chorus)

Public Enemy #1

Hey--Hey--Hey

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Motley Crue by Motley Crue are about two individuals who are on the run from the law, living in the moment, and enjoying their youth. They are completely focused on the thrill of the chase and the adrenaline rush that comes with it. The first paragraph sets the scene, with the two protagonists heading out into the night under the moonlight, with no distractions -- they just want to escape. The second paragraph introduces a tragic twist to the narrative as they run a red light, hear the screams of another victim, but remain unfazed, still caught up in the thrill of the moment.

The pre-chorus goes deeper into their mindset, as the singer asks the listener if they know how it feels “to be wanted,” to be seen as “Public Enemy #1.” The chorus repeatedly emphasizes this sentiment, with the singer proclaiming himself as the public enemy number one, defiantly asserting his dangerous and rebellious nature.

The song is a reflection of the wild and outrageous lives lead by the members of Motley Crue, as well as the dangerous and chaotic nature of the rock and roll industry in the 1980s, where decadent lifestyles often took centre stage.

The Crue out-grunged grunge rock on this album.Such a shame it wasn't received well.Loved it when it came out,and still do to this day!

Omar Mohamed

John Corabi was absolutely on fire with vocals for this album. An excellent heavy rock/metal mix.

Joseph Anthony Angel

Any album that really is ageless. This could have been released in 1994, 2003, or 2017 and it wouldn't sound dated. A fantastic and very underrated album..

Kevin Newsom

Yep. It feels like I showed up at a random bar and the band just kicked my ass. This record is criminally underrated.

Guilherme von Zuben Ricetto

Very much agreed! It stills sounds very modern! Fantastic record!

This is propably one of the best,if not the best thing, that Motley Crue produced. It's like 70's Aerosmith went metal, with a badass production.
