María Isabel grew up in a musical family while living in Queens. She always knew she wanted to make music, citing powerful women such as Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and Lauryn Hill as her biggest influences.
She studied in the music program at New York University while singing for the campus' a cappella group, APC Rhythm. Only during her first year at NYU did she start writing and recording her own songs, giving her a new outlet to express her thoughts and feelings. Soon after, she began to gain popularity through her Instagram and SoundCloud, where she would publish covers in addition to her own music.
After graduation, María Isabel moved to Los Angeles to further her career. In February 2020, she released her debut single “The 1,” followed by her debut EP Stuck In The Sky in October of the same year, which is based on the painful experience of a long-distance relationship.
(2) María Isabel López Rodríguez (b. 4 January 1995), known professionally as María Isabel, is a Spanish singer and songwriter. She is best known for winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Antes muerta que sencilla". Winning at the age of nine years, ten months, and 16 days old, she became the youngest person to win the contest to date (a few days younger than the Tolmachevy Sisters, the only other nine-year-old winners).
Several weeks before winning the festival she released her first album, titled "¡No me toques las palmas que me conozco!". This CD included "Antes muerta que sencilla", which launched her career in the Spanish show business world, making her a competitor of another Spaniard child star, Melody.
Salt Water

Ah
Salt water tears fallin' from my eyes
I don't wanna go to war, I don't wanna fight
You keep me warm
Ain't know that you could burn me with the same light
Thought we were more than a moment
Thought we'd be two stars in the universe
Who'd follow the same orbit
De yo sin ti no quiero saber
Y yo sin ti no quiero existir
Theres's love in letting someone leave, believe
Lost things flow back to me, you'll see
Some things happen twice in a lifetime
There's love in letting someone leave, believe
Lost things flow back to me, you'll see
Some things happen twice in a lifetime
The sound of your words
Swallowed my whole world
I'd forget my own name before I forget yours
Mm-hmm before I forget yours
De yo sin ti no quiero saber (ooh)
Y yo sin ti no quiero existir
There's love in letting someone leave, believe
Lost things flow back to me, you'll see
Some things happen twice in a lifetime (Aah)
There's love in letting someone leave, believe
Lost things flow back to me, you'll see
Some things happen twice in a lifetime (Aah)
Some things happen twice in a lifetime
Some things happen twice in a lifetime (Aah)
Maria Isabel's "Salt Water" is a song that expresses the pain of losing someone you love. The lyrics describe the feeling of crying so much that your tears feel like salt water falling from your eyes. The singer expresses their reluctance to fight or go to war, which could be interpreted as the internal battles we all face when dealing with grief or heartbreak. The person they lost used to keep them warm, but now they are gone, and the same light that was once comforting now burns them. The singer believed they had more time with their loved one, that they were meant to be together for longer than just a moment. They thought they would be like two stars in the universe, following the same orbit, but now they are separated.
The chorus speaks of the idea that there is love in letting someone go. Sometimes, lost things come back in unexpected ways. The singer believes that some things happen twice in a lifetime, which could indicate the possibility of reconciliation or new beginnings. The sound of the person's words engulfed the singer's whole world, and they fear forgetting their name before they forget the name of the person they lost. The Spanish lyrics "De yo sin ti no quiero saber Y yo sin ti no quiero existir" translate to "I don't want to know about myself without you, and I don't want to exist without you." This stark expression conveys the depth of the singer's love and the extent of their loss.
Overall, "Salt Water" is a heartfelt song that connects with anyone who has experienced the heartache of losing someone they love. The lyrics are poignant and symbolic, capturing the pain, fear, and hope that accompany such loss.

Translation of the short parts that are in spanish <3
"De yo sin ti no quiero saber. Y yo sin ti no quiero existir."
English: Of me without you I don't want to know. And I without you don't want to exist.
Keep in mind this is kinda like a literal translation, so to speak, but in other words it also could be something like: "I don't want to know about me being without you. And I don't want to exist without you." :)
