Because I Love You
Masters Apprentices Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's because I love you
Not because were far apart
It's because I love you
And because your near my heart

It's because I miss you
Oh how long it seems to be
It's because I miss you
Thoughts of you come back to me

Once we walked together
From the fields up to the door
Promised love forever
I remember that day still
It's because I love you
I'll come home to you one day
It's because I love you
In my thoughts you'll always stay

Oh, Do what you want to do, be what you want to be yeah

One of my favorite songs of all time, not just Australian! A great song of love, separation, and independence, it's a bit of an anthem for me! I was 12 years old when it was released. Recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, the piano being played, although not shown in the video clip, is Paul McCartneys white grand.   The blonde guy playing bass guitar is Glenn Wheatley (John Farnham's manager). Drummer is Colin Burgess, who became AC/DC's first drummer. The clip was filmed by Australian filmmaker Timothy Fisher and was shot on a freezing autumn morning on Hampstead Heath.

Oh Glenn Wheatley. I am heartbroken. This music was my introduction to rock at age 10 in Australia. Great musicand a great band. RIP to a wonderful man.

@dennisdobin8640

Hard to imagine, stuff like this was coming out of the radio every day and these guys and other bands where played at venues all mover Melbourne, looking back it was a truly magical time,never thought it would end and thought it could only get better.Truly grateful I was born a boomer.

So do i C ,D.

@WarriorsSon

The take on this I have is:
Imagine loving someone in a way no one will ever love them again.. realising that you will never see them again... and being able to walk away without anger..,or bitterness.
Its almost like Wish you well Bernard fanning vibes which is also definitely worth checking out if you aren't Australian and haven't heard it yet.

Powerful. The 70's- Another time of innocence before ours in the 90's which was the last of the great relationship era's before the horrors of social media and rampant narcissism.

@wilkiebarkid001

Bernard Fanning's song 'Wish You Well' was definitely about his split with his partner at the time.

@mindovermatter5886

One of the best...

@politicianwatch

Colin Burgess is one of Australia's most underrated drummers. I love his drumming on this track.

@l-vbordercolliesbryanbaque6237

He was AC/DC first drummer
