In 2001 Merche were in the Spanish pre-selection for Eurovision Song Contest with the song "No Pidas Mas Amor" under the name Luna. She finished in 6th place, but signed with Vale Music and start to record her first album Mi Sueño. From spring 2002 to the end of summer, the single "No Pidas Mas Amor" was a national hit in Spain, with TV appearances supporting the single and album, and was also the title track of the Spanish version of Big Brother.
"Como Pude" was released as second single, but sales were not as high as expected. In fall 2002 the third single, "Le Deseo" was released, and the album became a hit, up to #12 some weeks, and certificated gold, and a months later, platinum.
In the summer of 2003 the fourth single was released, "Mi Sueño", also with supporting appearances in TV.
In 2002 and 2003, Merche toured with her first album, in the Mi Sueño Tour, where she sang all songs from the album and two covers of other artists, Alaska's "A Quien Le Importa" and Ray Heredia's "Alegria de Vivir".

The lyrics of Merche's song Vete de aqui portray a woman who is trying to end a toxic relationship. She tries to convey her message to her partner that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, but he keeps on pressurizing her to love him the way he does. She asks him not to look at her or talk to her anymore, as she cannot handle the relationship anymore. She will not answer any of his questions and will not even talk to him as he has become her enemy now. The singer wants her partner to refrain from texting or calling her as she does not love him. She wants to end the relationship and move on.
The chorus 'Vete de aqui' is a plea to her partner to leave her alone and stop making her suffer. She wants him to go far away from her. The singer wants her partner to know that she does not love him and will not love him the way he does. She is tired of pretending and wants to end this relationship once and for all. In the second verse, she portrays her anger towards her partner, who lied to her and broke her heart. She realizes that all those promises of eternal love were just a lie, and she cannot believe him anymore.
