Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Mia Martini Lyrics

Facile da fare
Ma non so neanche io da quale
Parte bisognerebbe cominciare
E lo so dovrei reagire e
Convincermi per sempre
Che io avrò una nuova vita, che per
Dio non è finita,
Sarò la donna più completa che tu
Possa immaginare
Io saprò ricominciare
E non dovrò più rimanere in questa
Casa che mi opprime
In questa notte senza fine, in
Questo stato di torpore
The song Da Capo by Mia Martini talks about starting over from scratch, but the singer does not know where to begin or how to do it. The lyrics depict a sense of confusion and frustration about the current state of her life. She feels stuck and wasted in her daily routine, wasting her days away aimlessly between the corners of her house. She no longer considers her appearance or reflects on her feelings, avoiding the mirror, restless in the dark, and shunning the light that brings her pain, reminiscent of the state of depression or abandonment. She is struggling with a broken heart, which is causing her an immense pain that affects her ability to sleep, beat heavily against her chest, and no longer lets her rest. The final verses of the song express a sense of resignation, acknowledging that perhaps there is nothing more she can do to fix what has been broken with her partner.
In conclusion, Mia Martini's song is an emotive representation of the ups and downs of starting over. The lyrics evoke angst and despair, as well as realism and understanding. The confusion in the opening verses leads to feelings of hopelessness before giving way to the final recognition that sometimes acceptance is more important than resolution.
