Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Mia Martini Lyrics

niente da cambiare.
Il mondo gira intorno a te e non ti
può aspettare.
Stop, io non voglio più vedere, io
non voglio più ascoltare.
Voglio andare lontano, voglio
chiudere gli occhi, io non voglio
Prigioniero, cosa difendi?
Guarda intorno a te.
E se la notte vuoi dormire,
siedi e non pensare.
Stop, io non voglio più vedere, io
non voglio più ascoltare.
Voglio andare lontano, voglio
chiudere gli occhi, io non voglio
ascoltare mai più.
The song "Prigioniero" by Mia Martini speaks about feeling imprisoned by the world and society, and how the singer wishes to escape the constraints that are placed upon them. The lyrics illustrate a sense of frustration with the current state of their life and a desire to break free.
The opening lines of the song state "Prigioniero, cosa vuoi? Non c’è niente da cambiare," which translates to "Prisoner, what do you want? There's nothing to change." This line sets the tone for the rest of the song, highlighting the singer's feeling of being trapped and unable to change their situation. The following lines "Il mondo gira intorno a te e non ti può aspettare" ("The world turns around you and it can't wait for you") further emphasize the feeling of being left behind, as if the world is moving on without them.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "Stop, io non voglio più vedere, io non voglio più ascoltare. Voglio andare lontano, voglio chiudere gli occhi, io non voglio ascoltare mai più," which translate to "Stop, I don't want to see anymore, I don't want to listen anymore. I want to go far away, I want to close my eyes, I don't want to listen anymore." These lines convey a sense of desperation to escape and create a new reality for oneself, one where they don't have to conform to societal expectations.
Overall, "Prigioniero" is a powerful song that speaks to feeling stuck in one's current situation and the desire for escape and freedom.
