Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Moby Lyrics

That was just a lie
You said you love me
That was just a lie
All I wanted was someone
Who could keep me
Warm at night
You tried it baby
And now I know
This is gonna be the end
Oh, but you lied
You said you need me
That was just a lie
You said the truth
Once that was just a lie
All I needed was someone
Who could keep me
Warm at night
You tried it baby
But it didn't work
And now I know
This is gonna be the end
Oh, but you lied
All I needed was someone
Who could keep me
Warm at night
You tried it baby
But it didn't work
And now I know
This is gonna be the end
Oh, but you lied
In Moby's song Disco Lies, the lyrics describe a failed romantic relationship where the other person lied about wanting and loving the singer. The song is all about someone who is searching for a connection with another person, and they think they have found that with the person who lied to them. The lyric "all I wanted was someone who could keep me warm at night" is a common refrain throughout the song, and it emphasizes the idea that the singer is searching for love and affection. However, it becomes clear that the other person was not genuine in their love, leading to the realization that the relationship is ending.
The main theme of the song is about deception, with the other person lying about their feelings towards the singer. This theme is highlighted by the repetition of the phrase "that was just a lie" throughout the song. The repetition of this phrase emphasizes the betrayal the singer feels, making it a poignant and relatable song for people who have gone through similar situations. The song is a great example of Moby's ability to connect with his listeners through his lyrics, delivering a message that resonates with many.

@salomel127
I have been listening to this song for years now, and I have just realised that Moby recites a few lines from Arthur Rimbaud's poem, "Eternité" (at 1:57 and at the end of the song) :
"Elle est retrouvée.
Quoi? - L'Eternité.
C'est la mer allée
Avec le soleil.
Ame sentinelle,
Murmurons l'aveu
De la nuit si nulle
Et du jour en feu.
Des humains suffrages"
I love this song even more ! <3
