Porcelain
Moby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)
(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)

In my dreams I'm dying all the time
Then I wake, it's kaleidoscopic mind
I never meant to hurt you
I never meant to lie
So this is goodbye?
This is goodbye

(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)
(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)

Tell the truth, you've never wanted me
Tell me

In my dreams I'm jealous all the time
When I wake, I'm going out of my mind
Going out of my mind

(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)
(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)

(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)
(Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Moby's song Porcelain are full of emotion and turmoil, exploring themes of love, loss, and regret. The song is sung from the perspective of the singer, who is plagued by dreams of dying and feelings of jealousy. The line "in my dreams I'm dying all the time" suggests that the singer feels like they are constantly losing a part of themselves, which is a feeling that is compounded by their feelings of jealousy. The line "I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to lie, so this is goodbye?" is a poignant one, highlighting the singer's regret and the fact that they feel like they have no choice but to say goodbye to their loved one.

The repeated refrain "Hey, hey, hey, woman, it's alright" can be interpreted in a few different ways, but it seems to be a way for the singer to reassure themselves (and their loved one) that everything will be alright, even though they know deep down that it won't be. The line "tell the truth, you've never wanted me, tell me" is a plea for honesty, and highlights the fact that the singer is struggling with their own insecurities and doubts about their relationship.

Overall, "Porcelain" is a powerful song that explores complex emotions and relationships. The lyrics are full of honesty, vulnerability, and pain, and Moby's haunting vocals only add to the emotional impact of the song.

When I bought this record like a Moby collector, I was asking from my self - What's this rubbish? Shame on those people who make a lovely song sound like this!
